Default Motorola Droid Vs HTC Droid Eris

Ok so my contract expired and I am due for an upgrade and I was wondering if you were presented with a choice would you go for a Motorola Droid or HTC Droid Eris which is VZW version of hero. I am tight on money which is why I am asking, since if money was no consideration I would definitely go for the Droid.

I guess the final question is do you think that camera flash 8GB of storage space, external keyboard and Android 2.0 are worth $100 especially considering that they are planning on updating HTC Droid Eris to 2.0 as well?

Both phones are very slick, but personally I wouldn't hesitate to go with the Motorola Droid because of the external keyboard alone. Sadly I'm stuck on contract with my Blackberry 9000. Don't get me wrong; it's a good phone, but it's no Droid.

Here is a true story, Moto droid is crap ! My proof would be that my store sold 30 on launch day .... 8 had to be replaced same day thats a 24% fail rate on first day 3 different issues.

    1. Inability to sync with email
    2. Defective battery door
    3. Battery not charging

I would say moto droid. I was playing around with it for about an hour at my store. The OS was impressive. Very quick, smooth, the transistions from landscape to portrait was flawless. Its actually a 16GB internal by the way. The build quality was really what stuck out. Extremely robust, fortified piece of technology. A bit on the heavy side but easily can get used to it. I really liked the GPS it has on it. Very extensive, especially the voice recognition feature which was spot on. It included bus/subway routes, up to date times/sched, live traff, turn by turn either sat view or 3d. Best of all it was free. So no need for Vcast nav plan. Lastly, the keyboard. People were left uncertain about it but after about an hour with it I was very pleased. Verizon customers such as in your case, Its def worth it.

Thanks very much for this review summatus. When I said 8GB I meant the difference between Eris and Droid cause I heard you get an 8GB card for free with purchase of Droid Eris. Yeah it is cool that the navigation is there since Android 2.0 works on droid but I am wondering how long will it take them to port it for Droid Eris as well because then the difference would be keyboard (without which I could live) flash and a bigger screen

Oh sorry dude I just misunderstood you there. But if you say you can live without the keyboard def go with the Eris. I love the fact is has 7 desktop screen you can scroll through so personalization aspect will be endless. Honestly with the pace at which these android base phones are releasing it would be safe to assume that the marketplace is going to blow up in the coming months so you will have plenty of widgets and apps to fill those up. And as far Android 2.0 for Eris, It will happen but do not know exactly when. Rumored March for the possible roll out.

Good luck. I'm actually picking up my moto droid todayy! Cannot wait.

Actually I just managed to order Moto Droid for 150.. so I went with that. I am really excited for it to arrive. I heard that you don't have to pay the extra money to use tethering as they cannot track it so they are kind of running an honesty system. But I am def glad with my decision although Eris looks great as well

Oh nice dude. I got mine today. It truly has lived up to the hype man. I was running 5 apps at once, and I'm making calls, messaging, testing out the camera without any delay. It just worked dude. Kudos for moto and google.

You are going to love the notification panel! Truly a well thought out feature with the user in mind.

You made the right choice. The Eris has an inferior processor compared to the Droid. Loving mine to death! The iPhone fever has now abated, and I'm finally happy with my smartphone.
