What are people's opinions on some really good alternatives to the iPhone.

I'v been eyeing off the Samsung Innov8. Like it's simple design and awesome high MP camera!

but dunno how it goes for response times etc and moving through the menu's.

Currently using a Nokia N95 and it's slow as hell trying to move through menu's.

So i dunno, what you guys rekon is the next best thing to get for people who don't want to iBoggle over an expensive phone which is way behind in the Camera and Video Calling department.

Alternative to iPhone? Everything. But seriously.. the upcoming Palm PRE, HTC Touch Pro2 / Diamond2 (not mentioning previous versions while new ones appear on the horizon, but they beaten iPhone hard too), Blackberry Storm / Bold, Google G1/2, SE Xperia X1, Nokia N97, Samsung Omnia, I believe, are good examples.. These and all other high-end phones. iPhone isn't one of them but Apple did great marketing job so that people are comparing everything to it. It has a lot of advantages but it's not a high-end device. It's a great phone, but not a great smartphone. But in the end, everything always depends on what you're looking for.

Some humor about iPhone and how others perceive it (wait 'til the very end after subtitles, hehe): YouTube - Cell Phone Reunion

You might also want to consider this, hehe:

Yes i agree with you, watch out for Palm Pre,it should be an iphone killer,it is an alternative which can well compete with iphone features.

Probably the best replacement for the iPhone is the T-Mobile G1 or the Verizon LG Dare.

i agree nothing is an alternative to the iphone... there's a reason why everyone compares new phones to the iphone and that reason is the bar thats been set by apple.

I am Samsung BlackJack / i607 user. Yes, of course, Jaqui is correct it must be a phone, first.

    And a phone book.

But having a calendar (and phone book) that easily syncs with my desktop is an immense plus.

Hardly a reason to reject it.

I've had an iPhone since it came out, the original and the 3G, I hear there are rumors of a 3rd generation coming out sometime this year, that's supposed to make improvements in the areas you pointed out. Who knows though?
