Okay this tutorial is my first and is hopefully going to be really easy to follow.
Is there anyone out there who really hates downloading complete seasons of TV shows in that annoying format. (e.g - breaking.bad.s01e01.dvdrip.xvid-orpheus) ??
Well this tutorial is going to show you a really easy way to rename all your TV show files in the click of a button.
First you'll need to download FileBot or you can just run the Java application from the website.
So once you have downloaded this marvellous app you can begin to rename all your TV episodes straight away. I am running Mac OS X so things may look a little different than what you might be seeing on your screen. I have never used it on Windoze computers so I can't say how well it works there. I have Season 1 of Breaking Bad still seeding from my TorrentBox so the files have not been renamed. The process that I usually use is to move the files from my downloading machine onto my NAS. Once they are on there I can rename them the exact same way as if they were on the Mac itself.
Open up FileBot and it should look like this.
You then click load at the bottom of the left hand column and navigate to where your files are kept. If they are on the computer you are running filebot on they will be easy to find. If they are on a NAS for e.g you have to navigate to the Volumes folder and open whichever folder the files are in on the storage device which you have mounted. (i.e you can rename files that are on USB drives or shared computers on the network as long as they are mounted)

Once you have found whatever TV show you are looking for, you have a choice you can make. You can click on the folder of the Season number and click 'Choose' or you can open the folder and select individual episode files if you want to do them one at a time or if you have already done the older episodes and just want to rename a new one.
After selecting your folder and clicking 'Choose' your FileBot window will look like this;
You need to click on 'Match' with the two green arrows. A drop down menu will appear with many options you can pick from.
The first group of options is the website of which you want FileBot to fetch the data of the TV show. TVRage.com AniDB TV.com iMDB or TVDB.com all of which are really great. I suggest that whichever one you prefer is the one you try to use for all the files you want to rename. I have had experiences where one website would have a different episode name for a TV show than the other websites. Just pick one that you like to use and stick with it.
The second section is for movie mode. I have not really used this as I think its easier to rename movies manually most of the time, but feel free to give it a try and let me know how you fair!
The last section is for editing the format of the file name once you rename it. (e.g - breaking.bad.s01e01.dvdrip.xvid-orpheus -> Breaking Bad - 1.01 - Pilot OR Breaking Bad - 1x01 - Pilot etc etc) Again its all down to preference, you can edit in your own settings or just click on the ones they have built in. Up to you how you prefer your files to look when you are navigating through them.
Once you have gone through all the settings just click on the 'Match' button and choose which database you would prefer to use. FileBot will load for 30sec or so depending on how many files there are to rename and then it will come up with all the files new names. All you have to do now is click the 'Rename' button and presto, Robert is your fathers brother!
I hope some people find this review and least a little helpful. I know how I felt when I finally found FileBot and how easy it is to use so I just wanted to share that with this great T-I community!
Thanks for looking.
