    Default 12-months-Premium-VPN for free

First of who don't know About VPN read some info.. here...
Virtual private network - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Its a 12-months subrscription.
This Cyberghost-Service usually costs around 60-70EUR.
However, with my TuT it is free.
You dont have to give any private data, just an email-adress.
They guarantee that they do not log any IPs.
You got 10GB each months (real scenario 1/2 because of the 2-way-encryption), but this should be okay fo general usage or for checking some tracker relatet stuff (Good Example: Invites via IRC).

    So, let's start.

    Install the Cyberghost-Client from
SimonTools CyberGhost VPN 2010 | Anonym surfen - Jetzt kostenlos herunterladen und nutzen
    (Press the Download-Button)

After the Installation you may restart, but you could also do it later.

This is the Interface of the VPN-Service, which could be started by pressing Cyberghost VPN (Executeable File).
Start it and press 'New Account'

Your Browser will start and you see this.
    Type your mail twice.

You will get an Email with a Link to confirm and a seperate code (also included in the mail)
Type the Code in the lower part and your mail in the upper part.

After that you can to the third site.

Here you have to enter this.
Your pass should be very complex (as you know from HQ-Tracker-Signups), including Symbols lower/UpperCaps-Letters and Numbers.
Tick just lower box (upper box is for ads).
    Choose your language.

Click the second Link, called 'bereits erworbene Seriennummer freischalten'

    Enter this Code: ComputerBild

    Now you got a 12 months-Premium-VPN-membership.
    It should look like this..

Restart your PC once again to ensure that all services will load in a proper way.
After that you should start your Cyberghost VPN.exe once again, and enter your Username and Passwort.

Your Cyberghost-Window wil show the status of your VPN-Service.
You can choose VPN-servers manually or automatically.

Now you have a 12 months Premium VPN.

Hi, sorry to ask this but i really don't understand and don't want to read everything on Wiki, so i was wondering if you could give a basic explanation, an easy to understand one about basically what VPN is and what this tutorial enables you to do. I would really appreciate it =D.

VPN gives extremely secure connections between private networks linked through the Internet. It allows remote computers to act as though they were on the same secure, local network. I studied that in networking..

    Some advantage...
    Advantages

Allows you to be at home and access your company's computers in the same way as if you were sitting at work.
Almost impossible for someone to tap or interfer with data in the VPN tunnel.
If you have VPN client software on a laptop, you can connect to your company from anywhere in the world.

An Internet VPN solution uses a client/server design works as follows:

    1. A remote host (client) wanting to log into the company network first connects to any public Internet Service Provider (ISP).

    2. Next, the host initiates a VPN connection to the company VPN server. This connection is made via a VPN client installed on the remote host.

    3. Once the connection has been established, the remote client can communicate with the internal company systems over the Internet just as if it were a local host.

In short It used for secure connection ..

In this tutorial bandwith is limited...But If you have money You can go for Premium VPN services from other company..

Thank you very much for explaining it to me. So basically it is a remote accessing program that allows you to connect securely to another computer so long as it has the VPN installed.

    A few more silly questions.
    - Does someone else have to be at the remote computer to access it?
    - Does the remote computer have to be on?

Lastly you stated you get 10gbs a month, what is that for?

    Yes...

It's a limit that total data transfer through this VPN service..

im only wondering if it's allowed on private trackers? doesnt it share the same ip with a lot of users? (so it looks like account sharing)

The connection is done in two steps: connect via 1024-bit SSL encryption, here is a 128-bit AES key is negotiated, which is unique for each connection. About This AES key is then the actual communication.

    Easy to understand VPN...

"VPN" is the abbreviation for "Virtual Private Network. This is between you and our servers set up a tap-proof tunnel, run over the Internet, all your future activities at home almost as an extension of your network. You can use all your usual programs like Internet browsers, messenger, etc., uploading, and the whole traffic is secured with a safe encryption. At the "end" of the tunnel you enter our server that will forward your requests to the Internet and all connections as your "straw man" occurs. Your IP address is hidden, surfed only get to see our pages. The major exception is the e-mail traffic that is not tunneled to meet a possible abuse by spammers.

Im sorry, but i have to dis-credit this tutorial for many reasons. First, u have not sourced the work from the original author. Second, when another T-I users asks a question, u are copying & pasting your answers from other websites word for word. Finally, u are confusing the whole situation by giving wrong/bad facts about VPN's and what they are used for.

From your answers and posts above i came to believe u have no idea what a VPN is and giving wrong info like this can be dangerous to users especially in the torrent world. To keep this short and simple a VPN is nothing more then a Virtual Private Network mainly used to tunnel/encrypt your traffic securely over the net. It is a network jusk like your LAN, but virtually created to help network distant networks or for whatever reason u want to do with it. Basically it is used to help business' do all types of things securely and to keep the overhead low. However, in the recent years and with all the censorship going on in other Countries, VPN's are gaining popularity and are now more being used to encrypt/tunnel your home traffic from your ISP, which they always been used for anyways.

What i mean by all of this and let me break it down for u so everyone understands better > when u pay for this type of service or 1 of the VPN services u linked above, then are paying to join there Virtual Network thus giving u an IP address of that network. In return u are now surfing the web at home under a different IP, connection, country, etc. and out of reach from your ISP due to the tunnel. It works just like a proxy, but instead u are part of there Virtual Network.

So when u said "Allows you to be at home and access your company's computers in the same way as if you were sitting at work." then u will in no way be able to control your works pc's using 1 of the above services unless u use the RDP or other protocols VNC, teamviewer, etc. on top of all this, which u could use regardless if u had a VPN or not. The only time this comes into play is if u setup your own VPN, whcih many business'/users do and then u would be able to control that computer/network as u are a localhost.

To wrap this all up i would like to say that not all VPN's are good to use for torrenting and this is something u need to look into first. One major reason is, because u are using the bandwidth & choking the VPN, thus taking it away from users who actually need it for censorship or business. However, there are VPN's u can use for torrenting, but like i said make sure u look into it first and then also read tracker rules.

Fantastic guide MikeD--very clear. One follow up question--do you have a sense of what VPN service(s) would be useful for handling BT traffic? I really don't care about using it to access the trackers themselves, just for keeping my home IP out of the swarm. Through my friend Google I came across a humorously branded VPN called Hide My Ass--know anything about that one? Or something better for my needs?

    Thank you.

Thank u Rellik and i know of only a few good one's off hand. I never used them before so u may want to use Google and read up on them > BlackVPN, strongvpn and purevpn. There's a lot more then that, but like i mentioned earlier i never used them before and they are the only one's i can remember reading about across my various tracker forums.

Also i never heard of Hide My Ass, lol, but it sounds funny. I can research it for u if u want? One more thing is > the thing i do to use a VPN is setup my own on/with my seedbox. So that way when i surf the web at home im surfing using my seedbox IP. This can be done easily with an SSH tunnel, but u need to have SSH access and a seedbox and plus thats a totally different story.

i actually already ssh tunnel through my seedbox (I use Tunnelier) so I have that part down. So does that mean that a separate VPN would not be of additional use to me? Sorry for the n00b questions :)

    Thanks,

    Rellik
