Default How to resurrect a dead Graphics card

Ok I'm sure some of you would have come across this method by now but if you have a dead G card you can possibly get it working again by baking it in the oven.

    This is no joke.

    The method
1: remove heatsink and thermal paste
2: preheat oven to 385F to 400F( NO HIGHER!) ( gas mark 6)
3: lay foil over the oven rack
4: make 4 balls of foil, about 4cm high,
5L when the oven is heated to its corrent temperature, put the graphics card on the 4 balls, one on each corner )
6: leave for around 6-10 mins, NO MORE THAN 12 OR IT WILL MELT
    7: ENJOY!

For the record it does work
I did this succesfully to an 8800gtx card this morning.
Second computer wouldn't boot, just posted a long and three short beeps, award bios for no graphics. Plugged in old spare card and puter booted up ok. Must be the card then, nothing to loose...
Stripped it down, cleaned off thermal paste. Placed it on three balls of tinfoil. Middle of preheated to 200C oven, 10 mins. Let cool and reapply new thermal paste and plugged it in. Away it went.

The reason this will work for some people is the ICs that are used on the Graphics cards are surface mounted and are soldered by placing them in an oven to solder them to the board. By placing them in a home oven might just repair a broken solder gap and make the card work.

Yes, it works. My friends told me that he tried this once, but I think this is still dangerous. Your card and your computer can blow up any time.

If you have a broken grafics card it doesnt matter is something goes wrong since it's broken anyway.

But dont forget that it might still have a warrenty thou and you could get a new one for free instead of doing this...
