I just wanted to add, if you have PS3 it currently does not read ntfs drives. So if you have a hard drive and want to connect it by wire to your PS3 and it is a NTFS system it wont read it, like it doesnt not exist.
It is beyond me why sony did not make that availbe since NTFS is way better than a FAT32 system. That could be a future system update hopefully. It will save time compressing the video into rar files just to put it on the hard drive and then un-raring them again.

Would this work for a USB external HDD? I just learned that my old assed USB HDD was on FAT32 and I can't transfer my big movie files to it.

    Lets put the words correctly
as u said - ntfs means is it allows you to download more than 4gbs at once to your hard drive. If your hard drive is fat16 or fat32 it wont let you download bigger than 4gigs.

IT actually means that FAT32 doesn't support a single file of more than 4gb, u sure can download more than 4gbs at once of different files compiled together but not one file of more than 4gb.

Its like a single .iso image file of more than 4gb on FAT32 wud give error while NTFS wud support that more than 4gb .iso image.

Yes you can download rar files for example, as long as each rar file is under 4gigs.
So basically NTFS is the way to go with large files, and less hassle transferring them etc.

note he describes how to Convert to NTFS that means upgrading from FAT and keeping your files, not just formatting NTFS and loosing everything.

    good post.

Yes but I would recommend backing everything up that is important just in case, you dont want to corrupt those files or whatever you have on your hard drive.

P.s Instead of "thanks yous" which is appreciated, just add a rep if you feel this is a good post.
