To the procedure it will be necessary firmwares from codeguys (LINK) and some codeguys Utilites (LINK) too. Search for the firmware according to your driver's firmware. (you can use a 524 firmware at a 124 burner if you flash it like this. Obviously the "hardware needed" such as lightscribe and LabelTag features will not be available in less-capable-flashed burners.

    Prepare yourself!:

Open EEPROM.exe and make a backup of it in BACKUP EEPROM, save it and STORE IT SAFELY! if some shit happens, you'll be safe. Believe me, i already lost a 524 because i lost this.

Be careful with the burner selected in the superior blank!

Open Flash_Utility and make a firmware backup too. Click on "Read Flash" and SAVE IT SAFELY TOO!

    Crossflashing your burner

Now let's start the process. Be careful, any wrong step may brick your burner. That's why we save the firmwares.

Download the firmware that you want your burner to become. (Remember that the "hardware needed" such as lightscribe and LabelTag features will not be available in less-capable-flashed burners.)

Open Flash_Utility.exe again, but now click "Write Flash", click Yes for the warnings and search the downloaded and unzipped firmware downloaded from codeguys

Click YES and wait until it finishes. Your burner's led will start to blink.
Turn off your PC. Don't just restart, turn it off and wait a little bit.
Turn on your PC again and open EEPROM.exe (always being sure that you're selecting the right burner)
Go to CROSSFLASH and click CONVERT DRIVE, click Yes and wait until the end. Now turn off / restart and you're ready to go!
