You would be surprised at how easy it is to get a good ratio and material to upload, that is why you need to learn about encoding, and if you got 1 cd don't just upload a flac copy and call it a day upload it in mp3 320 cbr and mp3 v0. you can find a lot of good deal on cd's at dollar store yard sales or borrow from the library or even a family member. I am an elite user and can easily be a torrent master from the number of uploads I have. I went through my mothers collection and my brothers and just started encoding and uploading. I still got about another 50 discs to encode and you will be surprised what people will download, you don't need to have the newest albums out. most of my best ratio building uploads was actually older albums that people could not find anymore. I will just say it is easier then you think and I got close to a 1TB buffer now. plus this is a great site for meeting people and learning about music in general. This site is one that is worth the effort to join!

Even without contributing new content, it's not too hard to keep a good ratio as long as you seed everything you DL forever

On one of the questions they asked if I had a CD/Vinyl music collection and wanted a picture of it. Did anyone say they didn't have a collection or had only a small one and still get in? Does this matter?

Took the interview today. Was a short line, waited about 20 minutes. Interview took over an hour. It had 7 stages and I can't remember all the details, but I was actually surprised at how many questions related to ripping and encoding CDs there were. He asked what software I would use to rip a CD and what software I would use to create spectral images. For ripping CD's I said EAC which was an acceptable answer, and for spectral images I simply stated I had no idea, to which he told me audacity or some adobe program.

Also there was a section related to the sites rules, which I flat out hadn't read. Important to note: You CAN upload content you get off What to other trackers. Also another one that tripped me was, absolutely no releases are allowed below 192kb CBR, even if the only release available is below that quality.

The last section had to do with your music interests and music collection. How much you have on your computer and how many CDs/Vinyls you have. Favorite music, etc.

Anyways I flat out wrongly answered 4-5 questions, however I explained to my interviewer that I hadn't read the site rules yet and I am not an experienced encoder. All was fine and I passed first try.

If you don't know something I believe it's okay to state that, so long as you know the basics and show that you are willing to learn.

This guide was very helpful and I kept it on the side during the interview as a little cheat sheet.

I thought V0 can go up to 320 if needed...or do you mean just per-file average

You're allowed to be interviewed more than once, you may as well go in informed the first time.
