This guide covers ALL wiis, 3.0-4.2 any region, and all LU64+ and foreign equivalents. (NOTE:) dunno about those Korean ones? I dont think there is a 100% way to mod new korean wiis)
NOTE
LU64-65 AND HIGHER serial no wiis still cannot downgrade their firmware - if you bought your wii this year then it most likely will be one, so don't downgrade it! You are safe to follow this guide though.
Read the guide through a couple of times before trying it. Read ALL OF IT! Most problems arise from people not reading the instructions properly or not using a compatible SD card, a decent brand 2gb one is best (Sandisk works fine).
IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND SOMETHING THEN ASK BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!!!!
GETTING READY
-----------------------
All you need is an SD card formatted to FAT32/16, an internet connection and these files:
CLICK HERE[*]Extract all the files and copy them to your SD Card.[*]Now for those of you on firmware 3.0-4.1 copy everything in the folder: 4.1 AND BELOW EXTRACT TO ROOT to the root of your SD Card.[*]Again for anyone on firmware 4.2 copy everything in the folder: 4.2 USERS EXTRACT TO ROOT to the root of your SD Card.
Before you start make sure Wiiconnect 24 is OFF
TAKE OUT ALL GAMECUBE MEMORY CARDS/CONTROLLERS
1. INSTALL BOOTMII AND THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL
3.0 - 4.1 Firmware Users....
a). Insert the SD card into Wii.
b). Go to Wii Options, then go to Data Management > Channels > SD Card, then you will get a message saying "Load boot.elf?" , select 'Yes' and the Hackmii installer will run.
c). Install Bootmii as boot2 if you can, if not then install it as an IOS then go back and install the Homebrew Channel.
1. INSTALL BOOTMII AND THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL
4.2 Firmware Users....
a)On your wii's main menu, click the SD Menu icon. Afterwards, insert the SD Card into the Wii. A Pop up saying Load boot.dol/elf? should appear. Select Yes.
b) The Hackmii Installer should now run. Make sure to install Bootmii as an IOS and/or boot2. Always install it as boot2 if your wii can. Go back and install the Homebrew Channel.
2. BACK UP YOUR NAND (OPTIONAL BUT HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY <YOU GOT IT YET?> RECOMMENDED)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Making a NAND backup with Bootmii is highly recommended, it will recover your Wii from 99.9% of bricks. Use the same SD card you used to install Bootmii and make sure there is at least 530mb free on it.
Bootmii is very fussy about what SD cards it uses, so avoid generic ones and try and use a Sandisk or similar.
HOW YOU ASK???
a) Put the SD card into the Wii, if you installed Bootmii as boot2 then it will load, if it is installed as an IOS go to the Homebrew Channel, press 'home' on your wiimote and select 'Launch Bootmii'.
b) Use the power/reset/eject buttons to navigate the Bootmii menu and select the icon with the gears on it.
c) Now select the icon with a green arrow pointing from the chip to the SD card and follow the on screen instructions.
d) In about 10 mins you will have a NAND backup, it is normal to have up to 80 bad blocks so don't worry if you get some.
e) Put the SD card into PC and copy the NAND backup somewhere safe, (PUT IT ON A DVDR, A USB STICK ETC) you can now delete it from your card. If you installed Bootmii as boot2 then also copy the Bootmii folder to your PC and either delete or rename it, otherwise it will load every time you switch your Wii on.
So why back up the NAND you ask????
If ever you get bricked then copy the bootmii folder and NAND backup onto your memory card, do steps a) & b) again, using Preloader to get to HBC if necessary, then select the icon with the arrow going from the SD card to the chip. It is not recommended to restore your NAND if you have Bootmii installed as an IOS.
3a. TRUCHA YOUR IOS 36 (3.0-3.2 Firmware can skip this part)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
So you are now in the Homebrew Channel. If you are not, then load up the homebrew channel from your wii system menu.
a) Load the Homebrew Channel and run DOP-Mii, on the IOS Selection Screen, select 'Install IOS 36 (v3351) w/ fakesign' by pressing down on the d-pad then A on the wiimote. You should now be in the trucha bug restorer portion of DOP-Mii. Load IOS36 and select Downgrade IOS15. Each time it asks, select 'Download from NUS'
b) In the fakesign installation, once IOS15 is downgraded, it should begin patching IOS36.. Make sure to install the patched IOS36 with all these patches selected (Just Say Yes to All of the ones that come up)
Install IOS to slot (36)
Hash Check (trucha) Yes
ES_Identify Yes
NAND Permissions Yes
Then Press A on Install Patched IOS36. Again, everytime it asks, choose 'Download from NUS'.
c) On the same fakesign installation. Load IOS36 and select Restore IOS15. Each time it asks, select 'Download from NUS'
Basically just keep pressing A at every option until it tells you it has installed correctly remembering to always Download from NUS. If your wii screws up for any reason at this point, do not worry, just restart the steps again it will work. Keep repeating if neccessary
3b. INSTALLING IOS 60 / 70, UPDATING IOS's / BC / MIOS
--------------------------------------------------------------------
*Note* NEVER install a latest version of an IOS if DopMii says its a STUB. Never install a STUB ever for that matter.
You should now still be in DOP MII if you restarted your wii for whatever reason then Re-run Homebrew Channel and Load DOP-Mii again. Choose the first option by pressing A (IOS:36), You should now be taken to a menu with three options: IOS, BC, mIOS.
a) Select IOS by pressing A.
b) Scroll to IOS 53, where it says version, if there are arrows pointing right it means there is a newer version (select version 5406). Whatever version you are on select 5406 (even if you are on this version already) and press the + button.
c) It will ask you want to install IOS 53, click yes. it will ask you if you wish to install trucha signing. select NO. It will ask if you wish to install patches etc. Click no to all. All you are doing is installing the IOS with NO trucha.
*Note* If you accidently selected yes to any patches you have the option to cancel the install at the end of all the questions or if you have already installed it then just re-install the same IOS again but this time making sure you select the NO to any patches.
Remember always download from NUS.
d) Now install the following IOS's with the correct version number and again with NO Patches apart from IOS 53 and 55.

8.a I WANT TO USE THE WHOLE EXTERNAL I HAVE A LOT OF GAMES!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Note* Obviously using this method you are going to be erasing anything that the HDD has on it.. So unless this is already empty or you dont plan to keep your files on it, then it would be best to see the section below.
