Here are some authors you may like:
Rex Stout [ Nero Wolfe Series ]
W.E.B. Griffin [ Military Fiction / Action -- similar to Tom Clancy but a different take on it ]
For Classics, you might try Edgar Allan Poe. He is considered the father of the detective fiction.
Try David Baldacci, Vince Flynn and Ken Follet sounds right down your ally. I must mention Diana Gabaldon ,not so much because its sounds like your line, but because her Outlander series envelopes such a vast amount of genres that almost everybody can read it and still feel as if a family member has died when your finnish the last chapter.
