Default Books that change your perspective

I love books but most of the time I read them for entertainment or an escape from reality. Very rarely do I come across a book that changes how I perceive the world around me.Thought it would be nice to compile a list of books that would wow your mind for to read over christams & new year.

    Godel,escher,Bach an eternal Golden barid
    ishmael
    The Metamorphasis

Catch-22, 1984, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, Crime and Punishment, The Great Gatsby, Moby Dick, A Tale of Two Cities, Lord of Flies, Dune, and To Kill and Mockingbird are some that come to mind.

Plato's 'The Republic' is a must read. So is Hannah Arendt's 'Origins of Totalitarianism'
Both are a bit tough to read - I would make sure to at least read the introductions and prefaces in those books. Ideally, you could purcahse a copy that has a guide. Arendt will rock your world.

Some more modern works that have to do with the world and capitalism:
Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins
The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein
