Default What is your favorite genre of literature?

What are your favorite kinds of books to read?

Vote in the poll and then tell us here how you voted and what you like about that genre.

Personally, I love the NY Times bestseller list, but I'm also a fan of Oprah's book club. She has an excellent list of books that I simply can't put down. One of my favorites is The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan - an old school novel and an excellent one.

Whoo, look at all the Sci-Fi fans ;)

    Me included of course!

I don't know why I like the genre so much, I've always been a fan since being forced to read the Hobbit in school, and it has just taken off from there really. My Dad had a massive collection, so I started reading through his, and have been hooked since then.

I do read a wide variety of most genres, not really romance or crime, but still a fairly wide range. I still come back to SciFi/Fantasy though

Oh the Jason Bourne books are phenomenal. So much better than the movies. Robert Ludlum was a great author.

What sort of non fiction do you read?

    Hmmm...
I voted for Sci-fi, although i don't have a preferred genre as such.
I read any book which interests me, ranging from Tolkein to khaled hosseini to Ayn Rand to Dan Brown.
Any book will do for me, as long as it keeps me hooked..

But one genre i don't read is Romance ( Robert James Waller type )..my sis swears by it though..

i am more into Law, Sci-fi and Spy type of novels in Popular Fiction..

Thanks to Trevor for repping me in

Lately it's been the classics - so far I prefer Jane Austen to Charles Dickens. I was struggling through the Pickwick Papers.

Hi, what about esoterics? Osho, Castaneda, Richard Bach, Paulo Coelho?
I love them, good way to meditate, especially when reading Osho .. it's like magic, how he operates words and senses ..
but i vote for the classics here, love it in spite of time!

    Non-fiction, most definitely.

Especially military history books. Or first-hand accounts. Things of that nature.

    I read a ton of classics.Be it Dostoyevsky,Arthour Conan Doyle,Hemingway,John Steinbeck,Victor Hugo,Orson Welles you name it,it's there.
Also many philosophy books, ancient greeks, roman and renaissance ones.

Something that bothers me is that I don't have a clue about modern literature.I mean about those books that will be considered classics 200 years from now,if someone could point me to a trustworthy community or even recommend some books himself I'd be very grateful.
