How To Optimize Your Broadband Connection

Your broadband connection might not always perform the way you want it to. This can be disappointing especially if you paid good money for your broadband connection. The problem may not be with the connection. There are some things that you can do in order to optimize your broadband connection and get the most out of the money that you pay. Find out how you can optimize your broadband connection by following these simple tips.

    • Network security. One of the things that can lessen the speed of your broadband connection is when other people try to leech off your network. Unauthorized access to your wireless network can lessen the Internet speed. You must make sure that you provide a password in order for other people to access your Internet connection. You can provide a password for your connection by following the steps on the user’s manual for the wireless router.
    • Close unused programs. Some of the programs on your computer can automatically use the Internet. These can be peer-to-peer applications that can download and upload programs. If you are not using it for something important, shut down the program so that your Internet speed can increase.
    • Upgrade your equipment. In some cases, the problem may be with the modem. Some older models of modems are not able to handle fast speeds. You might want to check with your Internet service provider if the modem is suitable for the broadband connection that you have. By using the right modem for your connection, you can significantly increase your Internet speed.
    • Speed up your computer. The problem may not be with the broadband connection at all. In some cases, you may see that the connection is slow but this may be because of your computer. You must make sure that you clear all the unnecessary files on your computer to keep it running smoothly. To do this, clear your web browser and hard drive. Make it a point to remove the unnecessary files at least once a month. Back up the important files that you need but seldom use in an external hard drive.
    • Make use of a download accelerator. A download accelerator is something that you can use in order to deliver and download content quickly. The download accelerator splits the content into different parts so that it can be downloaded all at the same time making the download faster. Using the download accelerator can bypass some of the problems that you experience when uploading and downloading files.

These are some of the tips that you can use in order to optimize your broadband connection. You can check your broadband speed first before doing these changes so that you can see if there is any difference. You can test your speed on the website Speed Test. Afterwards, use the speed test again to check for improvements. If you do not experience a faster broadband connection after following these tips, you might want to ask help from a computer technician to help your with your dilemma.

    Nice post mate!
I have a Broadband conenction and I have really tried everything back at the time I got it. The thing that worked me is Cfos Speed for optimizing packets and KIS for security. The fact that modems can cause serious headaches is true :D My internet provider e.g. did not gave me a new one automatically after changing the speed to its double..

    Here's impossible to improve speed.
Accelerator program that doing just "nothing" and only eats free HDD resources.

On slow connections accelerator really helps - it packs data on the server end and unpack in on client end, giving good speed increase. But with modern internet speed in the world you won't see speed increase with the naked eye, unless you're located in the Africa.

I truly could not believe my eyes. The accelerator packs data on the server? And unpacks it when it reaches the client? WTF? The download accelerator becomes the client. There's no data packing. You can't control how the server sends the info to you. You can't use the server's resources to "pack" data or w/e. You were trying to say that the download accelerator compresses data, but that is a mistake nonetheless.

A download accelerator does nothing. The only usage I could ever find for such software was that I could arrange and schedule downloads more easily (that is until the BitTorent protocol appeared and so on). There was no acceleration, neither when I was on dial-up (9-10 years ago - 56-92 kbps), nor when I was on CaTV (5-6 years ago - 128 kbps - 5 mbit), not even now, on a FTTH (200 mbit) connection.

As for the "tutorial". If you keep your PC clean, without any clutter (meaning software you don't really need to use), then there's nothing you can do software-wise that will improve your connection speed. For example, my connection is of 200 mbps. NO matter what I try, I can't get past that. Do you wonder why? BECAUSE THAT'S HOW THE HARDWARE LIMITS ME. And by hardware I mean the gigabit routers installed for my home connection as well as for other people.

If your ISP limited you to 5 mbps, you'll never get more than that unless the limit is lifted.

Thumbs up for trying to post something interesting. Thumbs down for the failure.

    Scheme looks like this:
Your browser -> download accelerator -> provider server -> destination server.
Download accelerator works like proxy server for your net apps, handling their requests and sending them to provider server. Provider server gets required data from destination server, packs them and send them back to DA. DA unpack data and gives it to the application. I used this scheme years ago, when i was on dial-up connection, browsing was 2 to 3 times faster.

I don't mean to be flaming, but I have to be honest and tell/inform you that you have no clue what you're talking about. You have 0 (zero) understanding of transfer protocols, nor of software or how it runs or how it's supposed to work.

I will not be replying to this anymore.

    Good luck with the ramblings.

It all depends on your ISP speed and the nodes they have and your router...tweaking computer is of no help I would suggest

one more tweak everyone must employ is to
    hit windowa>run>gpedit.msc
local computor policy>computor configuration>administrative templates>network>QoS packet schedular>double click reservable bandwidth>change the value from default 20% to 0 % leave it enabled.

this would free 20% bandwidth which is reserved by the system
