Default How To Use a File Hosting Site For Free!

    Intro

File hosting sites are an alternate way to download the things you want rather than torrenting. This is a very reliable way to get things if torrenting is giving you a hassle . This is also a great way to download small files such as open-cd cracks, books, mp3s, etc. This is somewhat a safe method because only the file hosting site may see your ip which means no monitoring from the bad guys. Some common file hosting sites are listed below:

    • Rapidshare.com
    • Megaupload.com
    • Hotfile.com

    Pros:
    1. Getting files from file hosting sites is extremely fast!
    2. I have heard of no one going to court for downloading files from a file hosting site.
    3. No need to worry about how popular the download is because it’s on the server nevertheless.
    4. Great for downloads for files under 200MB

    Cons:
    1. Free users have to wait for a period of time and have extreme download limits.
    2. File hosting sites regularly delete copyrighted files.
    3. Large files are usually split into rar files which take time an effort to extract.
    4. Even paid members have download limits.

    Concept

The concept of file hosting sites is simple and has a very legal and practical use. A user either purchases an account or is a free user. They upload a file to the servers used by the file hosting site. The file hosting site than generates them a link for the file they uploaded. The only way to download the file is if the original uploader shares that link with another person (kinda!). An example of a legal use would be if a person wanted to send pictures to a relative through email and their attachment limit was only 20MB. Unfortunately the pictures are over 100MB in size. The person could upload these files to the file hosting site and then paste the generated link in the email. Therefore the recipient of the email may now download the pictures from the link and have all the pictures sent to them via email.

    How To

    Step 1: Finding the Files

First of all you must find the link or links for the file you want to download. There are essentially two methods of doing this. The first method is to use a warez site. A warez site is a forum that posts file hosting links to different files. A very popular warez site is shown below:

    Warez-bb.org

You would search the files you are looking for. You would then search the post for the links that you need to download the files. The links on almost all warez sites are usually in a code box. This makes them easier to select and impossible to search with an outside search engine (such as google). The example below shows you the files for the new ubuntu in the code section:

!These files will be used to download the file which will be discussed later and also notice that they are a series of rar files which will also be discussed later.!

A second and much less reliable method is to search the files with a specialized search engine. Some search engines use a modified search engine such as google to search file names in the links. This is not recommended and is a secondadary effort. Below is a few links to search engines:

    • rapidshare1.com
    • filestube.com

A slightly more reliable search engine that ive found is katz.cd which searches the forums. Although this is better should still be considered a secondary method to using a warez site.

    Step 2: Download Them
    !

Im only going to provide how to download files as a free user due to the nature of the guide. Also I will use rapidshare as a reference because it is the most popular site and the one I am most familiar with.

Once you have the links you are going to want to check if they are still being hosted on the site. The site warez-bb.org does have a link checker bot that tries to delete “dead” links but is not instant. To check links in rapidshare is a simple process. First you need to copy the links you want to download to your clipboard (ctrl+c or right click copy). Then navigate to the file hosting site’s home page and find its link checker. The example for rapidshare is provided below:

Now copy the links to the files into the checker and click on the check URLS button. This should tell you if the links are good.

!Sometimes you will get a false negative if the links are not copied correctly. Sometimes posters will change the links to something like h**p:// instead of http:// which will give a false negative. Look over the link and see if it has anything strange about it!

You may now click the file to load to now download the file. You must do this for each file! This will bring you to the download screen shown below:

Click on the free user button. This will advance you to a wait screen:

Wait for the timer to expire and your browser will prompt you to download the file. Then download the file and whoolah.

!There are premium link generators that may speed up your download speed. These generators should just be googled, for example google rapidshare premium link generator. These are not reliable and are not good for large files. If you need just one more file and rapidshare is being a jerk and not letting you download it you can resort to this!

    Step 3: Extract Them!

!If you are new to the whole compressed file craze than this section is for you. If you are familiar with .zip and .rar file extensions then you may skip this section!

I do not feel like going into much detail in this section because there are numerous guides available to you. I will assume you are using windows. If you are using linux download rar for .rar files from your repositories is the only advice I assume you need ( yes im being prejudice because if your using linux then you probably got this part down). If it is a zip file just right click the file and choose extract here and follow the prompts. If it is a rar file you must download an archive manager. The recommended one would be 7-zip which is free and works. You may download 7-zip from this link:

    Code:
     http://www.7-zip.org/
Once 7-zip is installed you may click any .rar file and click extract here. Make sure that all the rare files were downloaded into the same folder or this will not work. Once the files have been extracted you may delete the compressed files and admire your new downloaded file.

    Conclusion

This is my first guide on this forum and I hope it’s helpful to someone. I am open to criticism and it may only help this guide. Hopefully you will enjoy my contribution!

For Rapidshare, if you`re NOT premium user, you are allowed 1 download/hour if I remember good and that sux. Except that, the tutorial looks good and if it`s yours -> Great job mate, if you copied from someone else, give some credits ;)

    Cheers !!

For downloading at filehosters everyone should have the tool JDownloader. It makes things much easier and theres another trick that it supports:
For free users the waiting time between the downloads is a terrible thing. JDownloader offers a reconnect-feature that has your router reconnect to the internet gaining a new ip. So waiting time is over. This makes e.g. a Netload account (unlimited speed for freeusers) into a premium account actually.

I would also recommend JDownloader. With it you can just copy all the links, JD will automatically detect any download links, and you can start downloading. I often set like 10GB to download at a time and then come back the next day to check and it's all finished and extracted.

To have the linkgrabber ignore certain files, put this in its options
    .+?\.jpg
    .+?\.png
    .+?\.gif
    .+?\.bmp
    .+?\.flv
    .+?\.mp4
    .+?\.mp3
    .+?\.swf
To make it ignore Youtube links
    .*?youtube\.com.*?
