How to: Figure out which webbrowser that's best for YOUR computer
Have you ever tried to figure out which webbrowser that's "fastest on earth" and will get you that optimal speed everyone wants? You google for reviews and you read tons of text - because who doesn't want the best webbrowser? But every review and test gets a different result and it's still hard to know which one that's actually is the best for YOUR computer. I've been through that but found a solution. Therefor I want to share with you guys how to actually get a "review" based on your own computer.
With this "tool" you can run tests through a webbrowser and afterwards know how it operates with the rest of your computer (such as processor etc). The test consist of six parts and will after that rate the webbrowser on how it handled it. The six parts are:
Rendering # 1/6
These tests measure your browser's ability to render and modify specific HTML elements used in typical web pages.
Social networking # 2/6
Social networking sites use JavaScript to provide navigation, forms and other features. These tests measure typical webpage functions, such as loading, sorting and searching for data.
Complex graphics # 3/6
These tests use 'Canvas', a new web technology for drawing and manipulating graphics without external plug-ins. Canvas is not yet supported by all major browsers so the scores from these tests are not included in the overall Peacekeeper score.
Data # 4/6
Almost everything you see on a dynamic webpage uses JavaScript arrays. These tests measure your browsers ability to add, remove and modify data stored in an array.
DOM operations # 5/6
DOM, or Document Object Model, is the standard API JavaScript uses to create dynamic webpages. These tests emulate the methods used to create typical dynamic webpages.
Text parsing # 6/6
These tests measure your browser's performance in typical text manipulations such as using a profanity filter for chats, browser detection and form validation.
Then, how do you use this tool?
1. Install the webbrowser you want to test. Examples of what browser you can test are: Opera, Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer.
2. Open it up and go to: http://service.futuremark.com/peacekeeper/index.action
Note: To obtain an accurate measurement of your browser's performance, try not to touch the Peacekeeper window while the benchmark is in progress. Ideally, Peacekeeper should be run in its own browser window wihtour any other browser windows or tabs.
3. Start by clicking on "Benchmark your browser"
4. Allow Futuremark to install "Futuremark SystemInfo" (it's the program that retrieves the information of your computer*) on your computer.
5. Wait for the test to finish
6. Now you can see how much points you've earned and some other stats
7. If you want to test another browser and compare your stats between these browsers, then click on: "Benchmark Another Browser".
8. Then open this link in the other webbrowser you want to test.
Hope you enjoyed this and figured out which browser that actually is the fastest on YOUR computer!

*The system hardware scan collects non-personal hardware details from your computer, such as your CPU, graphics card and memory amount. With this data Peacekeeper is able to tell you if your browser is performing as well as it should for your hardware configuration.
