This day and age memory usage by FF is not as big of a deal. Reason being that most people with computer know hows have more then the typical 2GB of RAM.

Still a good guide/add-on none the less for a lot of people.

Really depends on what "trouble" your experiencing. Start by checking your add-ons and see how many you got. Might not hurt to get rid of ones that you don't use and/or are inactive.

    Testing with FF 3.6.3 - before: 366 640 K / after: 61 304 K (same load).
So on paper it works like it claims to. No difference in FF work flow for now. What effect it will have is hard to say - more testing in progress...
    Thanks for the tip.

You don't have to download a program to reduce Firefox's ram usage you can do thru firefox I wrote a guide here Reduce Firefox's Ram Usage Manually All OS's and Versions

just type about:config in your adress bar
in the "filter" field type browser.cache
    select the "browser.cache.disk.capacity"
double click it to change the value, default value is 50000 reduce it to 15000 and firefox will use 1/3rd the amount of RAM and still perform exactly the same.

I put some other tricks in that link too. Hope this helps.
