Default Alternative Way to Protect your Privacy in Google Chrome

As you know, Google Chrome, the latest web browser introduced by Google, has introduced a new feature which takes care of your privacy in an excellent way. I am talking about the “Incognito Mode” which deletes your footprint and every kind of trace during your Internet surfing. However, this may not be sufficent. In fact, Google Chrome uses a client_id variable which is unique for every Chrome user, and which can be used to create exact user profiles of a user’s actions while using Google Chrome.

Chrome Privacy Protector is a simple, free tool which deletes the unique Client ID before each run of Google Chrome. This Client ID is used for the user metrics service which sends usage statistics to Google so that we can learn how Google Chrome is being used for the sake of making improvements. If you do not like the idea that Google may spy you, even to improve its software, just launch Chrome Privacy Protector, and then click the “Remove unique ID now” button to anonymize your Google Chrome!

If you want to download the application, click here.

Thanks! I've used Google Chrome since it came out, and it's MUCH faster than Firefox.

I did not know that Chrome used an ID. Did they just hide this portion of the "Client ID" in some EULA? Shame on Google..

Chrome privacy protector works great. Also, UnChrome is nice because you only have to run it once.

UnChrome - Anonymize Google Chrome - UnChrome removed the unique ID from Google Chrome

After running unchrome, you can run Chrome Privacy Detector (CPD) to check if unchrome removed the id. CPD will say "Google Chrome anonymized: YES."

Then you can delete CPD and unchrome since unchrome's changes are permanent.

    That's an interesting program.

It's horrible how Google controls your information without your consent.

Thanks SRP & tehnerd! I'm not so much concerned about Google tracking my info (if they can use it to give me more relevant results, it's win-win). What I am paranoid about is whether other companies have access to that same info. I have been using Chrome ever since I heard about people exploiting Flash cookies to see what sites I've visited. I'm glad there is a way to remove this, else I'd have to switch to Opera or Safari... (*gag*)
