    Default Dramaticly speed up firefox v.3+

    Speed up Firefox. If you have a broadband connection (and most of us do), you can use pipelining to speed up your page loads. This allows Firefox to load multiple things on a page at once, instead of one at a time (by default, it's optimized for dialup connections). Here's how:

    * Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Type "network.http" in the filter field, and change the following settings (double-click on them to change them):
    * Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
    * Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining' to "true"
    * Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to a number like 30. This will allow it to make 30 requests at once.

    PS. To change these values you just have to double click on them.

    It works great for me. Feel free to experiment with the numbers a little if you think that 30 requests are too many/little for your connection.

    Hey man great tip, I definitely noticed an improvement, which is GREAT because I usually have 12 - 14 tabs open at once, I appreciate this!

    I +repped you, good job!

    Be careful with the values here, some site admins get pissed off when the value is set to high. When FasterFox started becoming really popular this was a big deal. Good tips though.

    Update:

    Another quick hint that will speed up page loading

    Create a new integer value called "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set it to "0".

    Thanks. I noticed too that Firefox seems to bold the values you've changed, so even though it warns you to that you could muck things up - you can always go back to the default settings without losing all your other custimizations.

    Thanks, I'd also recommend making "network.dns.disableIPv6" true.
    There are plenty more methods, but you've covered all the major ones!

    Wow, this actually does work. I remember an article in a computer game magazine a long time ago, where the author recalled drastically speeding up Ultima or some other DOS game when he realized the turbo button on the side of his computer wasn't pressed, and since then he's always looked for a "silver bullet" in every new piece of software. Some minor setting, hiding in the config, that will make a world of difference.

    You seem to have found firefox's silver bullet. ;)
