    Default Bypass ISP throttling

    Hey guys,

Many ISP's are throttling torrent traffic ... (the bastards)

I was looking around and found a simple solution.
It seems that these ISP's are not allowed to sniff VPN traffic, so configuring your client to port 1723 or 500 will bypass any throttling rules.

Hope it helps. Those with problems give it a try and report back if it helped.

while sniffing and intercepting VPN traffic (any proto) is not allowed, using those ports doesn't guarantee no sniffing/monitoring/intercepting.....

This statement is only partially true if the isp is using "gap" generally accepted practices

Heres a link for more info VPN

Hope this helps other users that are now confused ;)

You mean well bud but only having partial info helps noone :)
Please do more research on this as i'm sure you will find alot of info so you can post properly.

Yes it doesn't guarantee but there is a great possibility it will provide a solution to some. That's why I said I hope it helps and asked people to post back their feedback.

Once again same as above. I mentioned that it may not work with all ISPs.

So my thread was confusing and people that will read the wiki of VPN will stop being confused...

So a partial solution/info that there is a possibility that will help some people as you already have said so in your post as well helps noone, while providing a wiki link with some info on VPN that suggests no, even partial, solutions to the few people that this situation may apply to will help more? Thanks for your concern on me misguiding people and also dictating on how I should post properly but instead of criticizing my post you could use your superior knowledge and experience around here to help people out by providing a solution where I failed to do so.

yeah i agree with Mortivore ... this solution may not applicable to all isp'z but it will work for many of them , so as long as it helps many users who are suffering from their isp's brutality would take a sigh of relief

@Tavius : if u have any 100% solution for all ispz then kindly provide us here so that we can get benefit from it ... rather then criticizing the guy who already gave a suggestion which may help alot of people

As i see in your replies i have offended when i merely meant to point out that his original wasn't complete and was stating that i wanted to see more, i stated the knowledge that i had on it and provided a wiki in hope that the original poster could perhaps get more info from it than i did and post some more, i in NO way meant my post as a mockery, This is the issue with posts as the message can be taken in so many different ways, in this case mine as criticizing when in fact the user made me interested and i searched and found as much info on it as i could and posted.

@Mortivore, I was confused so i assumed others would be and hoped that the wiki would provide some knowledge as it did me to help ease the confusion :) I simply worded things poorly and in the future will choose my words and sentences more carefully

@intoxicated, I did not disaggree with his post as i posted the only isp types that it would work with, this was to help users who know this info from wasting time on trying to get it to work. I hope that there are more solutions to the other types and that if i find them i will add them to this post.

As i didn't say thank you for your original post , I say thank you now.

I hope that this will ease tension now directed in my way as i assure you i in no way meant to start in the first place

I will agree with you that messages in posts can be misinterpreted in many ways. It's liks SMSs. just think how many times you have argued with your girlfriend cause she just got an SMS the wrong way.

Anyway seriously now, I need to apologize as well for going into defensive mode. But anyone being in forums for some time knows how often we get forum police trolls harassing people's threads.

That said I still want to pinpoint a few things here and from my part consider this "issue" closed. After all, even if there was a minor misunderstanding, I think we kept it in a mature lvl like adults should. Regarding my post now, as you said while addressing to intoxicated as well, this issue is for specific ISPs and the solution I provided will work only with those. What you didn't realize though, is that this thread was originally addressed to people that are experiencing problems with those specific ISPs. Cause if they weren't using those ISPs in the first place then they shouldn't be having any problems with ISP throttling so this solution does not apply to them.
What I failed to mention though, is general info about VPNs but I assumed that people that were having problems due to this reason would already know that their ISPs are throttling. And even if you are not sure if you belong to those types of ISPs, using those specified ports just in case wouldn't do any harm.

This thread was never meant to be a general troubleshooting or speed optimizing guide. If people are looking to optimize their speeds and/or troubleshoot problems I have posted a thorough tutorial on that, the link of which can be found in my signature.

For once again I apologize if I was defensive in my reply and thank you for trying to contribute with valid arguments to this thread. I wish more people in here had the maturity/will to do so in the way you did.

    Cheers,
    George

This could work on older network infrastructures however now the majority of ISPs will not shape a connection based on the port alone.

Best way is to change your ISP and go to one that doesn't do traffic shaping. Though I find less and less reports of ISPs that do it at least in Europe as of late (they finally understood they are losing people this way).

Now to the above: If that works on your ISP then ports 80 and 8080 will also work unless they have them blocked if they offer premium hosting packages and don't want their users to set up their own pages. Sometimes tor networks work good too (that's if you live in france or germany and you have low ping with the tor servers).

HHaha i know exactly what you mean.
The worst is when u get an SMS and think something,
then read it again a day or 2 later and find a hidden meaning lol.

We talked about this in another thread
Glasnost: Test if your ISP is manipulating BitTorrent traffic
glasnost is a quick way to check.

If you find that your being throttled try encrypting your connection, either by using a proxy or in utorrent and prolly vuze etc you can select encrypted in preferences > bittorrent > Protocol encryption.

Thank You Mortivore, another really helpful post! After testing to see if my ISP is throttling, and coming back with no such results, I'm happy I don't have to worry about this, but I bet they're a lot of people that do have this happening to them, so this is really beneficial!
    Cheers,
