Default Download and Upload Speed Help

    Hey guys,

I really want to know of a definitive way to maximize speeds. Personally, I have extremely varied dl and upload speeds. On some torrents, I can clock 2.4 mb/s, on others only 25 kb/s. Another strange thing is severe, sudden drops in speed (e.g. going from a dl rate of 1 mb/s to 30 kb/s). Any help is much appreciated :)

Disk overloaded 100% is a common problem with external HDD's, and it all depends on the seeder/leecher ratio as well. Your quality of your connection can vary too, some are stable, and some are a little more shaky.

Torrent I'm currently downloading has 27 seeders and 12 leecher. My dl rate is 29 kb/s. Was 900 kb/s 4 hours ago. Any suggestions?

Hmm, if you're using uTorrent, did you follow the setup guidelines commonly posted on tracker forums?

Yes I did. I also forwarded my ports. Still, downloads are stuck at 29 kb/s :/

Depending on the peers you're connected to, yes, your speeds may dip and peak at particular times. Since you're able to maximize your connection on some torrents then your settings are probably fine. Without any particulars on the files you're downloading, there's not much we could tell you.

What you may want to check out is the peer list and see who you're connected to. Also, the more seeders the better. You'll always be bottlenecked back to the initial seeder and his upstream if he's the only available seeder in the swarm.

Also, related to download speed only - for me at least, the less I'm uploading the faster I'm able to push download speed.

Do port forwarding and then try to follow this guide.

Aside from following the basic optimization guide, this is simply an unavoidable part of the way torrenting works. Not much you can do about it.
