Default how can I download a .torrent from a private tracker directly to my seedbox?

    Hi!

I am using a private server with Ubuntu as a seedbox. I have Transmission bittorrent client running in it. The server is obviously headless, so the only remote access I have to the server is through SSH.

My situation is as follows. As I browse a private tracker, I find several things I want to download. However, I am logged-in to the private tracker (in this case, TorrenBytes.net) from my home IP address. Because of this, any .torrent I would download is intenteded to be used from that IP (and not from my seedbox). My current solution is to connect through VPN to my VPS, and download the .torrent file using the VPN connection.

My question is how can I download the .torrent directly to my seedbox? In other words, how can I omit the VPN connection every time I want to download something.

I am sure this has been asked several times, but I couldn't find it anywhere in the forum.
Thanks in advance for your answers!

Go into your user profile and set download/login type to normal (not secure) so you are able to download/seed from multiple IP addresses.

1- Right click the download torrent link and copy the link.
2- Open your seedbox and click add torrent.
3- Right click and paste the torrent url

This will work with most trackers, I'm not a member of the tracker you mentioned so I don't know if it will work there but give it a try.

This tracker allows you to download the .torrent from http or https. The problem is it only allows you to donwload the .torrent from the IP where you logged-in.

I tried this very simple scenario:
I login as usual to the tracker. I browse the torrents and select one I like. At this moment, I restart my broadband connection and change my IP. After the connection is stabilised, I click on the .torrent download. The result is that I am asked to log-in again.

I guess this is precisely what is happening to the seedbox when it tries to download the .torrent file...
Ultimately, I'm a bit afraid the tracker will ban me because it thinks I am trying to share my .torrent files with someone else...

    Any ideas?

Isn't there a "watch" folder where you can manually drop the .torrent files into? For feralhosting, I can download a .torrent file, then FTP it over to the "watch" folder where rutorrent picks it up. This would solve your issue as you can download the .torrent file first then switch over to your other connection thereby bypassing your tracker's ip issue.

That would be a solution, if the tracker didn't modify the .torrent file to specify the downloader.
What I mean is: Doesn't the tracker include information about the user into the .torrent file when we download a .torrent? Else, how would the tracker keep track of how much each user uploads or downloads?

In your case, you singed in to your favourite tracker, and download a .torrent. That .torrent is used in your seedbox, wich the tracker does not know about (does it?). So how does the tracker know it is YOUR seedbox? (and in turn, assign all the uploaded data to your profile).
In my case, it seems TorrentBytes.net keeps track of each user by their IP. Hopefully I am wrong and someone can explain how else do trackers keep track or their users.

I really don't want to get banned because of misuse of the tracking system, and being accused of cheating...

It sounds like you're talking about passkeys. In which case, they are USER specific, not computer specific. For instance, on Waffles, I can download something using uTorrent, copy the files to my ftp, drag the torrent into the seedbox and then seed from two locations. If you're ever worried about being banned for something on any site, recheck the rules. Some torrent sites do not allow you to seed from multiple locations. Hope this helps.

Have you tried downloading the torrent to your computer then uploading the torrent to rutorrent from your hard drive? If that doesn't work then I would look for help on their forums and irc because you are probably not the first one to run into that problem.

There are a few trackers that actually track your account ip (the one you login with) and your seedbox ip. I forgot which one I saw it on though.

@Bluntedking, What you say is very reasonable. I always thought that customising every .torrent for each user would be too resource consuming...
But then again, I tried what WLF11 says, and the following happens:

@WLF11, I tried that, and immediately after the seedbox loaded the .torrent, it returned an error about the tracker not liking the source IP or something... Fearing I would get banned (despite doing something that I AM allowed to do).

The rules state that I can download and upload from different locations at the same time, BUT, from each location I would need to login and download the appropiate .torrent. I could even download the same .torrent at each location, but they seem to imply that I can not use the same FILE (that is to copy the file to multiple locations).

    Does this sound too strange??
Here are the site rules: TorrentBytes :: Rules
And here the FAQ: TorrentBytes :: FAQ

It seems you can access them without login in.

Hm. I'm not exactly sure then. Do what someone above said and try their forums. Someone else was bound to have had the same issue.
