    Default Windows 7/PC Power Management Questions

    I recently read a post on Waffles that stated that allowing your PC to be put on Standby, Hibernate or Sleep, effectively pauses the PC and uTorrent will not be running at this point.

    This was very surprising to me as I have always had my dedicated Torrent/HTPC set to hibernate after an hour (I think this is the default for "Balance Power Options").

    1) Does uTorrent (and all other applications) really pause when your computer is in Sleep/Hibernate mode? I believe I have woken up and had torrents completed overnight, so this news is surprising.

    2) For the "Turn off hard disk after" option, the setting is 20 minutes. How does this setting affect uTorrent seeding/leeching and should this be set to never as well?

    For now, I have changed Hibernate and Sleep to Never and Hybrid Hibernate to Off.

    Thanks

    hi haven't used utorrent for a while now but when utorrent is working it will not allow pc to go to sleep. and yes i believe when pc sleeps all applications do pause. i don't think changing setting for how long keep hard drive on changes anything, i hope some other members here can confirm what i have said! maybe you configured utorrent -options- auto shutdown and thats why everything was completed the following day? good luck

    1) Your hardware will be turned off in sleep and hibernate mode. You even can't hear noise, so your hardware is not working and uTorrent neither ;-)

    2) I would suggest to turn off that option. When your are seeding or leeching, uTorrent needs access to your harddisk. Anyway, with enabled option, I guess your harddisk would probably never been turned off.

    I found the answer. There is so much I don't know about uTorrent it is scary. I'm gonna go back and change those settings.

    yes utorrent has a feature that disables standyby if you have active downloads.
    steps to remove this:
    1. Go to Options->Preference
    2. in Preferences box, go to Downloads.
    3. Under Other settings, uncheck the "Prevent standby if there are active downloads".
    4. exit utorrent
    5.Restart and you are good to go.
