Default FFDShow and vmr9 with overlay color controls no longer work. Please help

I will try to make this as short as possible, but I really need suggestions guys. I have an ati 4500. Up until yesterday I had been using the driver package from 2009, version 9.6. I was also using an older version of ffdshow. I watch most of my movies with zoomplayer and the video renderer is vmr9. It gives the best color colors, however it is usually pretty dark, so I use zoomplayers color controls to change the brightness and contrast. After installing a new version of ffdshow I can no longer get the color options to work with vmr9. Overlay still works, and other renderers, like cyberlink mpeg2 decoder work with vmr9 fine. I uninstalled ffdshow and put back the old version, I installed a new version of ati drivers and ccc after using drive sweeper to clean it. I even put back my computer to day one using an acronis system restore disc I made to no avail. I can not for the life of me figure out why vmr9 has lost the ability to use the application settings for color controls in either zoomplayer, and the overlay option in ffdshow. I have checked set pixel aspect ratio in output media type as well in ffdshow, since it ffdshow says you need to do that, however I never had that checked before. I've posted this on many different forums with a lot of people reading this but giving no suggestions, please help guys.

hi quazzar, it is a hard question as i have never had to do any of thst! i have found system restore dosent work that well as a clean install would. any 3 rd party software programs i think do more damage than what there worth. i once had a problem with a pc not booting thought it was vga went to local pc store paid 50 dollars deposit just to make sure it was turned out it was ram, took vga back and got money back. maybe you could also try this just incase it is the video card. i reformat my pc regulary to keep it working the way i want i hope this helps someway good luck.

I just reinstalled windows, and it still does not work. I can't believe this. The only thing that has changed on my system in the last few months has been a new stick of ram. I guess I will try removing that one stick and see if anything happens. However, it was working up until I uninstalled ffdshow a few days ago. I really am at a lose as usually I can figure out whatever computer bugs I am having, and my last resort is usually to do a reformat, which always fixed any problems, but not this one. I used to also have a different ati video card. Maybe when I uninstalled the drivers from the old one, they never got cleaned out completely and when I put the new drivers in the old ones confliced in a positive way to enable the vmr9 color controls to work. I dont really really think that is the issue, but sheesh, nothing else I have done has gotten this to work.
