Default Is Coral Player a Virus?

Does anyone have experience with Coral Player? I saw a report that some torrents are prompting the user to install a Coral Player video plugin in order to view the movie. I'm assuming it is some type of virus or trojan, but that's just a guess.

Anyone feel like researching it and posting your findings here?

i heard in the past that some torrents on public trackers needed some "special" player to watch movies. they were trojans or they were simply ask people money to register that player. so i will guess that coral player is scam.

    I guess they're fake torrents.

If you need to use a special player to view the video (or file, in general),
then it is most likely a scam. I would stay away from it.
Download your files from trusted sources instead.

My guess would be that Coral Player is indeed a devious attempt infiltrate your computer with some trojans or other malware/spyware.

Furthermore there is no reason that any file type would only be playable using a specific video player/codec. If it is a legitimate movie then either VLC player or KM player should be able to play it.

And just as a side note, I recently discovered KM player, it is very similar to VLC in the fact that it is capable of playing any type of media and IMO is cleaner and easier to use than VLC. More importantly though, it is more efficient when playing HD videos. Using VLC player 720p and 1080p movies would stutter on my laptop (even though I have a i5-520 4gb DDR3 Ram, and a Nvidia GT330M) when I started using KM they play smoother than silk. Also, consider using CoreAVC codec for playing HD video, best codec out there.

    Hope this helps, Cheers.

Turns out that CoralPlayer is not a virus, but rather a credit card scam. They upload fake movie torrents that are actually movie trailers with an advertisement at the end. The ad claims the movie has been encoded and you need to download CoralPlayer to view the rest of it. The website in the ad (run.coralplayer.com) then asks for $1 to download the app. However, that's just a trick... Read the fine print:

For US$0.95 you will receive a 3 day trial of CoralPlayer. If you are not satisfied you may cancel your subscription at any time. If you choose to keep your subscription you will after 3 days be charged US $19.95 per month.

    It's certainly a unique scam.
