Default Windows Reinstall - Quickest way to get uTorrent back up?

    I'm doing some upgrading/maintenance today and I'll be reinstalling win7 (in 64-bit).

So my question is, what should I do beforehand to make sure I can get my torrents up and seeding easily after the reinstall? Essentially, since the majority of the pathings will be the same for my file locations etc, is there an easy way to get all the torrents currently in my uTorrent client, out of my client? Or am I stuck pulling the individual torrents from their download location and then manually adding them back in to my client?

I see in c:\Users\%user_name%\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent that there are some torrent files..some currently in my client (not all?) as well as some others that I have or haven't downloaded in the past. In addition, there's several .dat files and what appears to be some language files.

all you need to copy is the actual torrents from the app data folder then once you reinstall win and get all set up load them back in

Ok well through some experimentation here's what I found:

    From c:\Users\%user_name%\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent you need to backup the dht.dat resume.dat, rss.dat & settings.dat files.

In addition, in this folder there will be torrent files that are currently in your download queue in utorrent, or torrents that you haven't downloaded yet that are currently at a "stopped" status. I found there were also torrents in here that i had added to the utorrent client at one point or another and then chose not to download and then removed. I keep a small amount of queued downloads so this was relatively easy for me, but I went through and backed up any torrents that were currently in my client but not yet started download or completed downloading. The torrent files that remained, I deleted.

To test that this worked, I backed up the .dat files listed above as well as the torrent files to a different location and then deleted all these files from c:\Users\%user_name%\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent. Upon restarting uTorrent, the app was in a "clean" state as if I had freshly installed it. Exiting uTorrent, then restoring the files I backed up to their original location, then restarting uTorrent resulted in all my files, seeding and queued for downloading being back in the client. The only thing left to do is "forcing rechecks" on the queued downloads.

Hope this helps someone else and saves you some time!

Edit: Of course I'll confirm this all works in about and hour or so win I'm back up and running again.

I found that if you don't get the .dat files as well, then all the files you're seeding won't get back in there. Pulling the .dat files also keeps you from spending time manually loading them all back in as well as setting the download location.

    Thanks for the help though!

Yea ^^ The easiest way to do it is ..

Copy the whole uTorrent Folder is AppData/Application Data Folder

to the drive/place where it will be safe even when the reinstalling occurs ..

when you have done the reinstalling of windows download a fresh copy of utorrent and install it then delete the uTorrent folder from current AppData/Application Folder and paste that old Folder you Copied and you will have the exact uTorrent back the way it was without the install even the stats won't be reset !!
