If you are running a dedi, then there are some command line inputs you can use, to be found here:

If you do not have root access, then you will need to have a web browser installed on your box.
The only other alternative, as far as I am aware is to ask your provider to supply one for you.
I am not sure if there are another other ways, sorry :)

You know why
You can't really provide a screen shot like you would on most normal connections unless you have root like stated above that I know. However, most of the time it should suffice that you provide a decent screen shot of it in action. What you can do is also provide a download link if they are interested a lot of the time and have that person test it out(assuming they have a good connection). You can also show an FTP transfer if you have fast connection at home as well or start a big download and provide a screen shot of the server in action. Apart from these ideas there isn't much I can think of that you can do.
If you're using this for proofs, I think a lot of times they actually ask for speedtests from your home connection, and then the seedbox is an extra one that you can throw on. For an actual speedtests, you will need root access, so it depends on exactly which plan that you have.
I've always just used screenshots of my seedbox, though - preferably if I can catch it at a high speed, often along with the name of the provider so that they can google them. The real speedtest things look cool, but aren't really necessary in this case.
