    Default torrenting in university

well guys,i have a problem.i am in the university and the internet is provided to students through wifi routers.i can download files from direct links but i cant download files through utorrent or any torrent downloading client.i dont know what to do.whenever i open utorrent my pc, internet connection stops working.after that i have to wait for 20-30 minutes and i have to restart my pc in order to use my internet again.i have tried every option i-e turning my firewall off, protocol encryption forced and disabling the antivirus but its not working.i will be very grateful to the person who will help me in solving that issue.thanks

You might want to try a seedbox. If you're not familiar with them, this thread explains what they are nicely. If you think this might help you, you should consider trying a seedbox give-away in the Free Seedboxes forum just to see if it works for you before you invest in renting one from a provider.

Actually, internet connectivity of almost every university is encrpyted & protected & blocked by some firewall which blocks all the p2p traffic.. In your case you CAN'T bypass it any way. So, its better to have a seedbox to help your case.

As bijoy said university networks are well bulit and monitored to leave you minimal to no opportunity to use bittorrent or any p2p traffic.
Although there are 2 ways to overcome this, but both have disadvatages. You can use a torrent client through SSH or through VPN. The first is for computer voodoo magicians knowing what they're doing and even so it is just a temporary solution.
The second option on the other hand is quite simple and useful but it has a huge disadvantage of a monthly fee (of around $10 or more) for the VPN service. On the other hand it makes you totally anonymous :)
But for a monthly fee you can also consider renting a seedbox.

The problem is that the university
is blocking most of the ports other
than common ones like HTTP,FTP etc.

You can use a Port Checker and try to find
to find an open port. Then use that in utorrent.

I have had the same problem in the past. My university server automatically detects and halts all p2p traffic, and then like your disables the connection temporarily. You really should try a seedbox. Download everything to that, and then sftp the files to your computer. An SSH encrypted ftp transfer should be absolutely fine for your university network.

You can get some very cheap options, 6 or so euros / month for a small 8 way shared box.

First of all, sshing is a piece of cake, second you need a host to ssh into, so you'd need to hire a VPS or gain access to a host outside the university, and since you're doing that you may as well transform it into a seedbox.

if you really cant get a seedbox you can set up a server at home to vpn through, or you could set up a home server as a seedbox. next time you visit home if you have an old computer leave it plugged in and set it up so you can connect remotely

At my university we have two easy/good ways of torrenting. The first is too connect through eduroam(not all universitys have this), and the second one is to find a place to connect through cable.

Ofc this is not something that is guaranteed to work for you, but it's worth a shot :)
