Recently i've bought my self a seedbox, it's amazing how fast I can download/ upload.
But the things is that to acctualy get it to my pc takes ages and my pc is very load, so I found out about a thing called media server.
If you hack Western Digital TV HD 1080i Mini Media Player: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories wth this B-RAD it puts linux on it. So what do you think guys could I install FileZilla on there and download my stuff like that?
Here's where I got it. Hacking the Western Digital TV media player - Hack a Day

Actually what you are attempting has nothing to do with your slow transfer.

Your transfer rate is dependant on your Hardware and Network. If your hardware is all good, then it all depends on your Network.

If your network is slow, then there is no point. What the hack is trying to do is just converting your media TV to a server. If that's what you are trying, then go ahead, but it will make no difference to your speed.

I'm assuming you transfer files through a wireless medium. What speed is your router capable of? Usually for a Wireless-G router it's 54mbps which is sufficient for most people. Alternatively you could go get a Wireless-N which has 108mbps bandwidth.

there are several media tanks that can support 3.5" hard disks and have bittorrent software built in, which may be better than 'hacking' the wdtv mini.
Also Aopen has a similar device with bittorrent capabilities installed in the original firmware, which may be better, since hacking may void your warranty.
Search google to get an idea...

Why not just get an old PC and attach a big external HD onto it? Old PCs can make for pretty fair media servers actually.
