Hello, so I am here to ask of what's the best wireless router to use for a Laptop & a desktop (no wireless NIC)
Is there such a wireless router that has a wired port so I can connect it to my desktop?
Also I will be using it for torrenting (of course ) and maintain low ping/latency for gaming.

Help is appreciated, I'm a newbie on routers in general.

    - Do you want one of those ADSL modem + router in one solutions?
    - How much are you willing to dish out?

All WiFi routers have ethernet ports btw, so that's not an issue. And generally you'd want to go with Linksys, D-Link or Netgear <-- these are the most renowned brands in the networking department (I personally own a Linksys WRT54GR an am very satisfied with it).

Hmm I already have an ADSL modem here, but will a ADSL modem + router in one solution have its advantages?

I have a Linksys WRT45g which have 4 ethernet ports, 1 WAN port and it has pretty decent power; I get a good signal strength even +/- 8 meters away so that would be a nice option, and the price is reasonable :) not so expensive.

I would definately go Lynksys. They are owned I believe by Cisco and are for home end users up to small buisness. Well you can go corporate but that is another post altogether. Very easy to install and have 4 ports on the backside panel plus they come in a variety of flavors, from gamer series to wireless -N and more. Hope this helps.

Yes, Linksys is a sister company of Cisco systems.

Configuring an ADSL modem with a WiFi router can be a pain in the a** sometimes, especially if that ADSL modem has a basic router built in with it.

Anyway, also make sure that the router you get has an external antenna. Those sleek black ones with internal antennas look nice, but give crap signal strength. My Linksys WRT54GR has 2 big fat antennas sticking out and I get >90% signal strength even 30 feet away with walls and furniture in between.

And as you can see, many people here are using Linksys WRT54*** routers with no complaints, so you might wanna go with one in this series. But feel free to check out D-Link or Netgear as well, just look up the specific model you have your eyes on in Google so you know it doesn't have any defects or complaints. I'm assuming features like 128-bit AES encryption and MAC address filtering are standard in almost all routers now so you needn't worry about that (you won't be needing it anyway unless you're a paranoid git like me :D).

Hmm, so 3 votes for linksys and 1 vote for AVM.
Further suggestions/comments are still welcome :)
    Thanks!

Just read your reply after I posted my reply above.
Okay so I don't want any of that trouble so I'll be buying an ADSL modem + router in one solution
The WRT54*** series is an ADSL modem + router in one solution right?

    Nope, it's a WiFi router only :p

Anyway it's not necessary that you'll have trouble configuring your router and modem. The problem in my case was that my ISP is really unhelpful and the modem they've given me has a VERY bad UI where options are hard to find. To top it all off it is technically an ADSL modem + wired router in 1 so adding another complicated router to the mix and getting it to work properly proved troublesome.

Generally if all you have is a basic ADSL modem then configuring your router shouldn't be hard at all and might even be as easy as plug n' play.

Easiest confirm this would be to head over to a local tech forum and see what people who are subscribed to the same ISP as yours have to say.
