seed box isn't mandatory but helps out alot with building a ratio there are some private sites out there that just require you to seed for 48/72 hours (ratio Free Trackers etc) and there are other sites that you wont survive on with out a seedbox or having to donate etc when it comes to it do i need a seedbox Answer is no Does it help Answer is Yes comes down to personal choice if you can maintain a ratio with your net line you will be fine

I really don't understand what a seedbox is either, all I understand it helps with ratio when you have low download/upload speeds, and that they are connected to 100/MBs lines other then that I have no clue I've read most tutorials around on seedbox's but still not comprehending what they do or are or what lol

Well, in a few words: Think of a seedbox as a server or "computer" with high speed connections. You download the .torrent file and upload it to your seedbox. The data transfer will be between your seedbox and a tracker. Thus you can download and upload a lot of files in a short period of time and it's a valuable resource specially if you don't have a good ISP (like me).

For example, I use a seedbox from SeedMonster. I go to a tracker, download the .torrent file to my PC. Then, I login to my seedbox and I see a web interface like uTorrent and then I upload the .torrent file to my seedbox and the download/upload begins. I usually upload ~120 GB a day :) and I get download speeds of ~4 Mb/s and Uploads of ~2 Mb/s so do the math. 2 Mb/s are 120 Mb in a minute, or 7.2 GB in 1 hour.

Most of the seedboxes are ready to use out of the box, you don't need to install anything, you can use it from the moment you have access. You can purchase a dedicated seedbox (it means you'll be the only person in that machine), it's more expensive and requires more skills.

    Resuming...

You're renting a "remote PC" with uTorrent (or other client) installed, that have a high speed connection (normally..) , running up 24h/7days a week.

You can access this, for retrieving your files by FTP

there is no straightforward answer whether to use/not use a seedbox.

first the seedbox is a remote server (or some fraction of the server, depends on package u signed up) that will be able to download and upload torrents at high speeds (up to 12mB/s on a shared 100mbit). Seeding is done at the server and u fully utilise home ISP download speed

second if u're on a shared seedbox, many providers don't reveal how many users are cramped onto the server for max profit. This results in high server load and slow speed. Basically u're at the complete mercy of the provider.
note: not every provider are about max profit, check out reviews here -> Seedbox Reviews - Torrent Invites! Get your free private torrent tracker invites !

third, when people say about seedbox helps ratio building, they mean u can easily do 5TB or more uploads within 1 month. That is just only by leeching and seeding available torrents, not even uploading your own

fourth, I would say getting a dedi box or VPS would be better than a seedbox cuz u only need to top up a little more for a dedi or VPS... All credit to Mike for this awesome guide -> http://www.torrent-invites.com/tutor...ver-setup.html

finally, I would say getting your own server and setup rutorrent/utorrent would be the way forward :)
