I think it comes with torrent client if it supports bittorrent.
Answer to the question is either yes or no depending on how we define seedbox. You wont most likely get any speed increase but your computer doesnt need to be running.
Look like you can run a torrent client like he stated, I'm not sure about the speed though.
The speed will obviously be bottle-necked by your own residential line so I'm unsure what you guys are not sure about. Anyways, I'm currently using my D-Link 343 NAS for the same purpose and it works fine as a seedbox. The only concerning factor is the slight delay to wake the HDDs from stand-by. It seems to be a tad slower than your standard PC internal HDD. Although, this may be completely irrelevant from the WD.
As for the specifics, I had to hack my NAS and install funplug to load a torrent client. In this case, I have utorrent installed. Simply set your Web UI within the configuration and everything works like a charm.

I am planning to do something like this soon, as the power consumption of my pc is too high. I'm still debating whether to get a NAS or hack my wdtv live to run utorrent / rtorrent.
I would suggest you to get one of those buffalo linkstations with BT support. They look like nice option for seeding from home.
If you don't upload torrents, seedbox is useless in this tracker. The number of user is too little
