    Hey guys :)

    Me and my mate finally got us an unmetered 100Mbit OVH server together.
    We are still on the same HDD, have vsftpd installed for FTP use and each of us has deluge via his own webui. Now there has been a strange problem, I will explain it to you :

    To test the upload speeds I uploaded a new and big (40GB) torrent to a private server, where I was the only seeder and soon there were 22 leechers.
    I checked the webui then and saw "11.1MB/s" upload speed, and I was happy.
    For a moment.
    Because then the upload dropped... IT JUMPED, basically always into one direction. And it often even went to 0 MB/s upload, even though I am the only seeder and 22 leechers! So this shouldnt be. After 13 hours of seeding the first guy was done downloading and I still hadnt seeded 1:1!! (while others seeded 5:1 until then).
    On average I had 1.37MB/s upload for these 13 hours...

    I also tried downloading stuff from the OVH server to my old seedbox (which I havn't had problems with!) via FTP! The download was quite okay this time 6-7MB/s average (so 6-7MB/s upload from the ovh server?) But it jumped 3 times to 0 MB/S, took 3-4 seconds and then started again. (and that during 20minutes!).

    I didnt set up the server... my mate did. But if you can tell me what probably went wrong during setup... or if this is clearly a server issue from OVH, please tell me...

    I dont wanna pay 3x of my old seedbox to get 1.37MB/s upload on average. (As my old one did 2.5MB/s)

    (While download to the server seems more stable I thought I also experienced "jumps")

    ________

    Additionaly what should an OVH server actually have on upload speeds?

    Thank you in advance

    EDIT, of course the best thing if you know how to set up servers (but this would be too helpful... is that you might come to irc this evening (18-x PM GMT).
    irc.megworld.co.uk #megworld Mr_bo_jangles is my mate who set it up.

    5:1 could be do to someone grabbing part of the package or just the sample and uploading that back 5 times. I think its just that internet speeds flux, collisions happen. I went from my kimsufi ovh box to the Universities wireless and let run for few hours on FTPES, I was getting between 4MB/s to 6MB/s. pretty much maxed out the wireless bandwidth. I saw the few slow downs and pause, but that's normal on that distance transfer and wireless, nothing major.

    If someone else thinks it's OVH, what would be a better network to have a server in.

    I own 2 kimsufi seedboxes and never had a problem like that...

    You own ovh or kimsufi? Cuz kimsufi has noSLA and SLA.. not sure if ovh has that too.. but basically if you max out for a couple of hours or so they put you on restriction.

    This isn't possible unless some of the other users had the identical torrent and were cross seeding it. If you upload something and nobody is cross seeding it, for anyone to download the complete file and be a seeder you would have to upload the entire torrent at least once.

    So it's possible that other users had faster or better configured seedboxes/servers. Another possibility is that you are overloading your discs and they cannot maintain that fast speed. Try limiting the speed on them to a few different levels and see how that goes.

    To handle large torrents I had to add these lines to my /etc/security/limits.conf
    * hard nofile 4096
    * soft nofile 4096
    Then reboot my server. Ubuntu server will limit your file and io connections to 1024 by default.

    OVH is one of the best networks there are so I think it might just be a problem with the torrent pieces, maybe you were only seeding the rare pieces of at 11 mb/s. Torrent technology is confusing

    I will say that I also have a unmetered 100Mbit OVH and have not seen this problem this month. The only time I have had issues is when it was on my end with my webui. Besides that my speeds have held firm and maxed out for weeks. I use SmartFTP for my downloads from my box, what ftp client are you using?
