Well, what exactly did u want to do here? I can tell u how to setup a proxy, but i need some more info. There's numerous ways of doing this. For example tunneling ssh, openvpn, squid3 proxy, phproxy, etc... I just need to know what u are intending to do with it and then i can move u in the right direction.

Is this Ubuntu distro u are using your actual home desktop or is it your server/seedbox? Are u just trying to browse Demonoid from a specific IP so that your ratio updates or are u just trying to bypass the ip list bans? Once i find this info out i will tell u what to do next.

I just want to set up the proxy so I could get on sites without my ISP seeing me (like Demonoid.com). I found a setting that like help you set up network proxy but I just dont know how to set it up. Oh and the Ubuntu distro is my actual home desktop. Dual with windows xp on another HD.

This is the Network Proxy Setting:

Ok i understand now. Thanks for the info.

Anyway, all u need to do is first find a good proxy IP address with port #. U can and should be able to find free proxy IP's with a quick google search.

Then once u do that, u will want to open the network settings window that u have open in the above screenshot and add the proxy IP address in the "manual proxy configuration" field. Also put the correct port # that is given to u with the proxy.

Finally, just hit "apply system wide" and the settings will be saved and ready to use. U may have to restart your network card or restart your computer for it to take effect though.

Then just open up your preferred browser and go to a site like "whatsmyip" and u should see the proxy IP as the 1 shown u are browsing under.

One last thing is u dont have to do this system wide and this can be done with each application as well. For example, u can have your browser only use the proxy and nothing else, but u will need to change the settings in your web-browser's settings. Then do this with any other app u want to use the proxy and thats it. Also to get your settings back to normal just use the "direct connect" function in the network settings.
