Thread: Optimum utorrent settings for private trackers

Could someone please help me with the optimum utorrent setting for private trackers? Especially in 'preferences', the 'bittorrent', 'bandwidth', 'queuing', 'connection' settings which is the best way to set it up? I know DHT has to be off, anything else? What about upnp and NAT port mapping, local peer discovery and peer exchange, do we leave it on?
All advice is appreciated.



P.S. - If someone can make a guide and post it in 'tutorials' it would be very helpful to everyone, I don't think there is one now.

Thanks but these are general settings, I saw these in the tutorial section, what I'd like to know is specific to private trackers. The best settings when using private trackers. I'm not looking to boost the speeds and such, but certain things like DHT should be disabled etc., what else do we do for private trackers? I'm not looking for optimization but optimum setting if you get me.

Private trackers have same settings, the only difference is they ask you to disable DHT, peer exchange and local peer discovery. It's not necessary most of the time as torrents uploaded to private trackers already have "private" flag and your client disables it automatically.
Another thing is that you shouldn't add other announcements to private tracker's torrent.

These are the main things. If there is something else you should be able to find it in tracker's rules and FAQ.

PS. I personally have both DHT and peer exchange enabled as it gives better speeds on trackers that have DHT allowed. If there is a torrent without private flag from a private tracker i disable DHT and peer exchange for this torrent manually.

I also noticed much better results after I check "Append !ut to incomplete files" on the general section of preferences.

There's nothing that anybody can really outline for you as the best optimization for your utorrent. It's primarily dependent on your isp connection, e.g dial-up, dsl, broadband, satellite, and even then quality of wiring, signal output from isp, capping of speeds, etc. But to attempt it at least, I noticed adjusting settings in utorrent preferences under bandwith and then number of connections does miracles. Adjust these numbers (starting at 25 for each field and then moving up in increments of 25 or so, and possibly lowering one field considerably and upping the other..) until you see utorrent working at it's best, your probably not going to get much more then that, unless the items above are upgraded. good luck.
