Are you planning on having a windows or linux based seedbox?
I have one based on windows home server so could help you out if you want a windows based one.
Don't know much about linux though.
Where exactly do u need help?
Software issues? or hardware?
For sure, u'll need lots of space, so 1 or 2 hard disks (maybe 1tb each) will help.
What is the speed of the line you r u going to use?
I have a 1gbps line. I will run linux, or maybe debian.
Another question: will my ISP likely have blocked the ports I need open? My ISP is suddenlink: Suddenlink Cable Television High Speed Internet Phone
I probably also need to figure out a way to do FTP.
I will gladly thank whoever is able to help me, at all.
I dont know how well this would apply since you are running this off of your home line, but it has helped me when i set up my seedbox from ovh: http://www.torrent-invites.com/tutor...ver-setup.html
Linux distributions might be an ideal solution if u know (or if u have time to learn) about it (the one u r going to choose). How to install programs, unzip them, install etc... if u don't know, u will loose precious time doing things...
Though, if i were to set up a file server, i would choose windows xp (maybe a lite edition)... initially i used ubuntu 9.04 in a rather old laptop; wasn't very happy... maybe things would be better if the machine was not that old (but in fact, it wasn't...it had a Pentium 4, 3.2GHz, 512mb ram).
I agree with derailed but I guess it's about what OS you know and feel comfortable with. Windows or Linux could be used as the foundation of a good seedbox if you know how to configure them.
I think the difference is that with Linux you start with nothing and build up the services you want wheras with windows you would do the reverse and slim your install down so that you only have the necessary services running.
Try this..
If it can run XP well
