So, yesterday I submitted a speedtest for a low-level giveaway and I mentioned that I am currently in Prague and have a low upload speed. Here is the speedtest -

My permanent home is in Boston, MA USA. Here is a speedtest from my home network -

So, I was thinking that maybe I should do my seeding from my home network while I am away. I could let them seed at max upload 24/7. I do have access to my desktop there and was wondering if there was a way to put completed torrents into dropbox and load them into my desktop uTorrent? I know I can transfer the files, but am unsure about the tracker... Also, would I have to download the .torrent again?

    Any ideas?

Patriotic, if u have the file same somewhere and if you can transfer the file to your home PC, then you just need to download the torrent point it where you have saved the complete file in your home-PC.
The torrent will auto recognize the file and start seeding right away !!

If you dont have the complete download file, I am afraid you dont have any choice but to re-download and then seed! :o

Yes this is possible to do and if u still have the .torrents then u dont need to download them again, but if u dont then u will need to download each .torrent and add it to your client like u normally would any torrent. I dont know if u have the free version of Dropbox or the paid, but u could use dropbox to transfer the torrents to your home computer regardless.

This is what to do > Transfer all the torrents to your home computer using dropbox. After u get the torrents to your Boston computer, make sure u already have a utorrent installed there. Then open utorrent preferences and go to the directory options. Once in the utorrent dir options, make sure u fill in the path for "Put New Downloads In" and then move all torrents u transfered to the Boston computer in that dir/folder. Finally, download each .torrent & add them to utorrent. It will then hash check and start to seed when finished.

EDIT > I think i read your post wrong. Did u want to only download the torrents at the computer your at now and then transfer them to your home computer just to seed? or did u want to 100% switch to just using your Boston computer for all torrenting? If u just want to continue downloading in Prague and use Boston just to seed, the tracker may throw up a red flag for this. Please read the trackers rules cause some allow u to use 1 location for downloading and another location for seeding, but not all do.

I think more of what he's trying to say is that he wants to download torrents on his low-upload-speed computer, but he wants to be able to seed them from his faster-upload-speed computer.

What you can do, like danny mentioned, is re-download the torrent file and simply point it to the directory where you have the already-downloaded content, and your client will check that you have all the necessary pieces and then begin seeding.

You can transfer the files via FTP, I believe, with little-to-no issues (you can set up a secure line so no one else can access it) and even do all your uploading/downloading on your home computer and then just grab whatever you need on your other one via FTP.

Please let me know if this works for you!

Well you can make it work like how the cross seeding works.....get the file from your far comp. to your home PC..then now download the torrent file from the tracker again and then point it to destination which is already having the file and then after hash check it will seed....

Oh if you have downloaded like some movies from a pack not all...then while adding the .torrent file only select those files which you have....nice and easy... ;)

    Oh rem
ember to stop seeding from one location while starting from other...some tracker may think it is some malpractice like seeding same file from 2 locations....

Thanks for all the input. I thought I was on to something, I just wasnt too sure about how to make sure it points my tracker in the right direction so I got the credit.

I think FTP is a great idea, and faster than dropbox. Also, I have the free 2gb Dropbox, so any files greater than that will be a pain to transfer. And, downloading them straight to my home computer is probably the best idea. Its much simpler that way. Take what I need, when I need it.

My home network is taking a beating - HD streaming, constantly from my slingbox so that I can watch everything from news and sports to primetime and movie channels...

Just FYI - I transferred a movie and the .torrent and it is currently seeding... in Boston.

    Success.

Haha, belive it or not but I did this once in my school. Upload speeds are CRAZY and the admin was too stupid to block utorrent. Then just disable the little icon and nobody will know it's running. I was upping about 12 hours a day at insane speeds. They found out after a while so installing uTorrent no longer works. :P
