    Hi guys,i've had this thing,which is making me wonder if it's a firewall issue( I will provide the info below), virus, or neither ;

So hmm, to start with, I have a 100mb connection(speedtest result will be provided below.),and I use uTorrent for torrenting, but here's the problem ; I saw yesterday a person that has 1gbit connection, showing his download speed, it was 10mb/s,and he claimed that 10mb/s would be equivalent to a 100mb connection speed, and that's where I think this is strange, because I have 100mb connection, and the max speed I can get is around 1.2mb ? And that's not all, even on torrent, the max I get is 1.7mb, so could that be a firewall or virus problem? I've tried everything that I know, to make my internet speed fast, but I just can't make it go around 5mb/s at least, and before I forget, could someone help me make a good uTorrent setting too?

Okay so here's the info :

My firewall & antivirus is Kaspersky Internet Security 2010

    Als
o excuse my lack of computer knowledge, but when I mentioned about trying to fix my internet, all I really did was try to reset the modem through the button that windows vista provide, and also going to ms-dos and typing "netsh winsock reset" "ipconfig int ip reset" and that's about it. I also used tools to help clean invalid registry(I didn't delete anything that I shouldn't have deleted )

And last, here's the result of the person with 1gbit connection :

This is the best speed I got by the way :

(Sorry for putting my name there, I didn't want people to steal my result and claim to be theirs back in that time.)

So this is it, any enlightenment guys?

I'm not really familiar with how japanese internet connections stack up with those in the U.S. but I can tell you that you DL speed has alot to do with the site you are downloading from. I had a 1Gbit connection in college and my best ever download speed was 16 megabytes/sec downloading drivers from Nvidia.com but on some other sites like download.cnet.com I only got speeds like 100kb/sec. My only advice is to try and download from different sites, especially local ones, and see if you get a better speed.

First off, people here will probably know what you're referring to when you say mb, mbps, MB, MBps, mb/s, MB/s, but you really need to use those terminologies correctly. Very simply put, 8 bits (b) in a byte (B).

10 MB/s is about right for a 100 Mbps connection. I've seen it upwards of 12 MB/s, but that's extremely short range and in an almost near perfect scenario.

Your first speedtest shows a gigabit connection. Obviously because it's exceeding 100 Mbps. It might be due to some power boost feature your ISP is providing for the first few seconds of downloading. I have that as well which really gives you inaccurate speedtest results. You go on and mention about 1.2 MB/s which is definitely not a 100 Mbps connection. It's more like a 15 Mbps connection. Also while torrenting and only downloading 1.7 MB/s is extremely low for a 100 Mbps connection. Like you've mentioned, this could due to your anti-virus or firewall , but it could also be your ISP traffic shaping your bandwidth. If that's the case there's nothing you can do.

If you haven't already done so by now, you can completely unload your antivirus and firewall. If you have a router, remove that as well. Connect your modem directly to the PC and see if the download speeds increase at all.

Here's a decent guide for utorrent optimization: http://www.torrent-invites.com/tutor...-utorrent.html

Personally, I don't think it makes much of a difference. You might see a slight increase, but not enough to wow anyone.

In addition, there are numerous sites/forums out there that tries to optimize your internet speeds, but overall, they don't make much of a difference. If you're still interested, you could check out the link below.

Broadband Tweaks forum - dslreports.com broadband community

You could find DrTCP somewhere there. The entire tool is designed to tweak the TCP, MTU, RST, other winsocks for maximum performance; but like I've stated earlier, it doesn't make much of a difference.

    Hi Lvx
I agree with el2em, you're a little bit confusing between the units...
But that's something I don't understand about the last speedtest : did you take it from your home computer ? Cause this test show that your connection is more than 100 mbits, if I not mistake... And then proof that your connection is ok.

Latter to el2em's post you may in fact be able to hit 10+MB/s in uTorrent, it drastically depends on the seed/leech conditions of the torrent as well as the seeder's connections as well. My seedbox is also a 100mbps and its only around 10MB/s if I stay on top of it to keep only popular torrents active.

    Hopefully this helps.
