Default Help to setup Seedbox for GA?

    Hi

I have recently acquired a seedbox from Feral Hosting (160gb, 1Gbit, 1Tb external traffic) and I would like to set up some 24hr GA's and maybe fill a few requests as well.

How do I set this up for someone else in the first place?
Also if someone else connects to say TL where I am a member using my seedbox will that effectively link me to their account or vice versa?

Oh yeh Im using rtorrent with either w or rutorrent. Im ok setting up new ftp and http access, but im stumped on the gui front.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check out this page, this might be some help for you

and regarding the seedbox sharing with another user in TL, its required that you as well the user who uses your seedbox report to the admin of TL about it as its equivalent to using a shared bandwidth seedbox where more than one user as the same server IP, by this way they will know about the sharing and will not result in banning of both you and the user.

Thanks mate, thats a really useful link and illl definitely get a lot of use out of it. It seems to explain how to do most things but not really about setting up more than one user on the same slice.

Ill just have to PM mods/admins at each tracker then when Im sharing it?

Yes it depends on the tracker, search in their respective forums and FAQ on how to submit it. If you are too concerned then the other safe option is you dont use the seedbox during the giveaway timeline.

Edit: Hey OCDan read the http://www.torrent-invites.com/give-...way-rules.html
You are not supposed to use the seedbox which you have given away. You should give the full bandwidth to the user alone during the period.

Thanks for the reply, but I know thats not right, I dont just have to worry about using it at the same time, as a number of trackers link all IP's to specific account and then in future they are connected.

All u need to do is create more users on your server then install whatever torrent client, etc.. u want them to use. After u do that u need to setup ip's for those users so it doesnt link back to yours or others ip's. However, u need to buy more ip's before u can do this. This is the best way to do what u want to do so all users are not sharing the same ip. If u cant afford to buy more ip's then all users will have to share the 1. Also if u need help compiling rtorrent+rutorrent i can help.

    Dan,

It really depends on the hosting provider. Some of them let you create sub-accounts. (Usually on high end dedi servers) but more often than not you will not be able to create sub-accounts. If this is the case the only way to do a g/a is to have them change your password and give that person the account login details for your account. Obvioulsy when you do this you should not be using the account at the same time.Make sure and change the password back when the g/a is done. To get around this either create a second account just for g/a's, or upgrade to to server that allows sub-accounts. If you do have a server that allows sub-accounts you should contact your hosting provider for instructions on how to create them. Sometimes you can create them, and sometimes the hosting provider requires you to. It all depends. Hope that helps.

If u have root access then there is no need to contact your provider. This has nothing to do with high-end servers. If u have root access u can do whatever u please on any server, but if u have normal then u are limited. If Dan has root, which i was assuming he did, then there is no need to contact anyone to ask and he can create as many users as he wants. If he doesnt then he needs to contact them, but in most cases they wont give it to him. To create users is simple and just issue the following commands in terminal logged in as root, without the signs:

    # useradd -m UserName
    # passwd UserName

    or

    # adduser UserName
    # passwd UserName

Thanks Mike, I have rootaccess but everything has to be done in ssh, so i would assumer a .htaccess file is needed then? I could add a user and pass on there then just delete it after? Just the matter of sending a couple of trackers emails and seeing what they say about using same IP as I just checked i cant get another IP as im just on a server slice, not a dedi.

Im sorry Dan, but im a little confused. Are u trying to create new users to use your existing rtorrent with each user having there own rutorrent? Or did u want to create new users each with there own rtorrent + rutorrent?

To do question 1 u will need to make dir's in your webserver root dir for each user. Say something like User1, User2, etc... Then u need to wget rutorrent to each dir u created. This will make sure your new users will have there own rutorrent. After that u need to use different ports for scgi mounts for each user. Finally u will use htaccess to authenticate each user and u will be able to access each rutorrent.

To do question 2 u need to create new users on the server and compile rtorrent + rutorrent for each created user. Both ways of doing this can be complicated especially if u dont know how to do it. If u want me to get more into it i can.
