The other day I realized that I may have not been doing something right when I cross seed, because one of the trackers that I wanted to cross seed on credited my account with the whole download amount. Then I noticed that it happened on another tracker as well. Who knows how many times it happened in total.

What usually happens is I download from the source tracker, no problem. Then I download the .torrent file from the target tracker. When I start the target torrent, it starts downloading from the target swarm because my client doesn't recognize that the media is all there. This is where I fix things, like usually the file names are different, and force a re-hashing of the target torrent. The re-hashing completes, it finds everything and now the torrent is seeding. This is where I've noticed that I sometimes get dinged for the whole download.

Has anyone else come across this problem? Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?

Have you set your torrent client to not download a file as soon as it is opened?

You mean to not download as soon as you add a torrent? Recently yes, but how is that relevant? Until the torrent starts downloading, you don't know if the files matchup, and you even have files to compare to. Unless I'm not understanding what you're talking about.

Oh sorry i think i'm miss understanding you :P
So what exactly is the problem? Are you talking about having files that you think are similar but once you start to seed it actually downloads instead becuase the torrents are not similar?

Set all the files to do not download when you first load the torrent and relocate them. Then, even if they fail the hash check they will not start downloading, but if they're all on skip and they pass the hash check then the torrent will go straight to seeding.

The filenames must be different . Your mistake was that u added the .torrent and left , u should have watched over it until it starts hash checking then it's okay , if it starts downloading then stop it . this is incase of large files , small files get downloaded so fast so u might want to make sure .

    Example :

    downloading .torrent from freshon.tv : Glee.S01.MIDSEASON.720p.WEB-DL.h.264.DD5.1-HDB

after it's done downloading , download the same ,torrent from say BitMeTv , be4 adding immediately to the seedbox , start it at ur pc , see the filenames , if they match those of the freshontv .torrent then ur good to go , add the .torrent to the seedbox and it will start checking , when it's done , u'll be seeding to BOTh trackers
OR if the file names are not the same , the slightest change ( dot is replaced with comma , - replaced with _ ) then u have to rename the files already downloaded to match those of the BitMeTV .torrent , and make sure the folder name is also matching the BitMeTv .torrent . In this case , when adding the torrent it will start hash checking , then after it's done u'll bee seeding to BitMeTV only .

This is ofcourse if u r downloading a whole season or episode pack incase of downloading a single episode :
    1) downlaod Conan.O.Brien.2009.12.09.Snoop.Dogg.HDTV.XVID-BAJSKORV from freshon.tv
    2)download the .torrent from BitMeTV
    3) add the BitMeTV .torrent to the box , while u r adding it , select it's location inside the folder from freshon.tv , coz torrents from freshon are inside a folder , while BitMeTV's torrents are the single .avi or .mkv i.e. not inside a folder .

Games , and movies from 0day trackers are always the same , same folder name and same rars , just make sure
    1) It's the exact same release
    2) It's the exact same size

Download the torrent from one tacker , then add the the .torrent from the other tracker m select the same location , check for the same folder names , modify the name if it has the slightest of changes ( it's not common for torrents from 0day trackers to have different folder names , but it doesn't hurt to double check ) If the folder name is changed u'l be seeding to one tracke , if it's the same , u can grab the same .torrent from as many trackers as you have and start happy seeding :001_tongue:
i remember COD - MW 2 i was seeding to 7 trackers ( this is hurtful to the speed , but heh , i was too excited ! )

Music releases are also the same , rarely different folder names , just make sure the sizes are EXACTLY the same when trying to download the .torrrent

    Music vids - same

    Ebooks and audiobooks - same

    ------------------------------

It's an excellent idea to cross seed , coz if you can't make it to 1:1 ratio , then i's okay , u have pure upload credit in this case , just remember to make it right .

I just remembered about this post, and so I thought I'd follow up. Speaker is basically on the mark. You want to make sure that your torrents don't auto start. If they do and then they don't match, your client will report to the tracker that it has started downloading from zero. After you correct any problems and do a re-hash, the client reports that it is now finished, and the tracker assumes that you've downloaded it all (hence the full download credit). The process you should follow is as follows:

    - load torrent without it starting
    - do a hash check
    - fix any errors, and hash check again until you get it right
    - start the torrent

If I can add something: sometimes even scene releases contain different sample files, nfo and screenshots. It is good idea to uncheck in torrent client those files when you add torrent to cross seed. Sometimes there are problems especially with sample files, which can have size from 10 do 100MB (depends on tracker's uploader). If yours source torrent has bigger/smaller sample file size then seed crossed one will download and replace this file. Torrent appz. will signalize “incorrect size error” for the first one.
