The video lags and stutters, but the audio is fine. Also, I downloaded the CCCP pack and it didn't improve much

Then it's a processing issue. Your best bet is to find CoreAVC and use it in conjunction with a Mastroska filter and FFD Show.

    Hyprul,
I've found that the easiest way to play media files is to download the K lite mega codec pack. It has everything and never had to worry about downloading codecs etc ever again.

like the previous two posts, K lite pack should take of your issue. KMPlayer works well too; same goes for MediaPlayer Classic, and GOM Player.

As an addition to the other members' comments. After trying those options. If it is still choppy, it is most likely to be your hardware. Decoding MKV video files eats up a lot of resources. RAM memory, CPU, and Graphics Card all play a big role on the performance.

    Hope it helps.

Provided it's only a codec thing, I would shy away from the "Vista codec" pack. While it says it was put together specifically for Vista, I had some problems with it. Certain video files when viewed as a thumbnail would crash explorer, so I removed the vista codec pack and it was all better; on other forums, people were having similar issues.

    Just say'n
