Thread: Upload Speed?

In utorrent I always find that i have and upload speed of about 200-300kb/s (kilobytes, not bits or whatever). However, i never see it go above this. I have plenty of half-open ports, enough connections, and i have no limits set.

That's my speedtest, and 7.12/8 is about 850kb/s, so i should be able to upload that fast, or at least at above 500kb/s assuming the rest is taken by other computer processes.

Can anybody explain to me why? Or perhaps provide a solution to increase my upload speed? Thanks!

Try limiting your download speed to about 14mb/s to make sure doesn't choke your connection.

Also perhaps try a different client such as Azureus and see if that makes a difference.

Yeah make sure you are limiting your download speeds. Limit it to around 80%

Yea, i do limit my dl speed, usually at 50% Doesn't make a difference.

Also, i can try another torrent client, but not Azureus, since iptorrents will ban that one, anybody have one to recommend?

Also, the speedtest is in megabits right? So i have to divide it by 8. If its in bytes, then im really confused by why my download speed is so low...

According to your speedtest your download speed is about 2.3mega bytes/s (19/8) but you should limit to about 1.8mbs.
Yes, divide by 8 will give mbs.

Yea, ok, well i can get maximum download speed (2.3MB/s), but never my upload speed. Is my ISP perhaps throttling? I mean, i have comcast (but obviously my dl speed isn't throttled so...).

I hate that theres megabytes and megabits. Everything has to be so complicated :P
    Heres my speedtest:

    My uTorrent stats:

I usually see a download speed of 15kB/s to 40kB/s (on average) and an upload speed of about 8kB/s to 15kB/s. Most of the time my upload speed is faster than my download speed What gives?
I was downloading an album before the download in the pic which was reaching a download speed of 210kB/s.
I'm paying for 3MBp/s my ISP says i'm getting just over 2MB/s. Can someone please tell me whats going on

    Thanks a billion
    Sam

Ok, so according my calculator, based off that speedtest, you should be getting a max of 226.56 kilobytes/sec on downloads (and like you said, you got 210 earlier, so that sounds fine). If you're not getting it consistently, check a couple of things (I did this for myself). First see if your utorrent port is fowarded, and that you are connectable. (I see you're a member of ptp, and they have a utility for that, i believe it's under the help tab) Second, make sure you have enough open connections. You can set this in utorrent preferences.

Also, in utorrent, check the book to enable encryption, in case your ISP is throttling torrents. Also check DHT and peer exchange to get more peers/seeds.

When you say you're paying for 3MBp/s, do you mean megabits or megabytes, becuase if its megabytes, you're getting ripped off big time (since I'm assuming the speedtest is completely accurate), if its 3 megabits then my guess is that the speedtest isn't accurate because somebody else was using the internet at the time, and downloading something so part of your bandwith was taken up. Try multiple speed tests on different servers at different times and post the result here.

Do NOT check DHT, don't use it on private tracker and at some trackers may get you banned.

Uh, yea, WaZ, read the posts. That speedtest at the top is my speedtest, his is in his post, it shows he has a download speed of 1.7megabits/sec, which is 226kilobytes/sec.

Wait, but what about DHT, why wouldn't you enable it? Doesn't it just give you hash-tables that allow you to connect to more peers?
