Thread: What Is Cross Seeding

I've seen a lot of people talking about cross seeding. I used the search tool, but to no avail. So I was just wondering if you guys could tell me what it is. You don't have to, but it would also be appreciated if somebody could tell me how to cross seed. Thanks for the help, T-I.

It's simple when you download a torrent file from one tracker, and when the torrent is completly downloaded, you download the exact same torrent from another tracker, and uploads from it.

EX:

download a torrent file from tracker A.
Then download the same torrent from Tracker B
B checks for torrent A.
when 100% check is done, B starts seeding for tracker B.

People do this so you don't get any download on your tracker B, since it's already downloaded from another tracker.

But note, the folder, rar's, etc all have to be completely the same for this to work.

Great tip, I suppose you could use this as a 'cheat' for seeding with no consequence for the download amount. Would this be frowned upon or appreciated by private trackers?

Actually this is appreciated at trackers. Some trackers even suggest u do this. I do it all the time with usually 3-4 trackers at once. I run into some issues occasionally, but its a utorrent error and has nothing to do with the trackers.

But i would like to add few things
1)many sites don't allow cross seeding so pls check the rules of the site u r using it for
2)Its also Known as Pre Seeding
3)To amplify this trick u first download a torrent from a Ratiofree Site(Gft,Pretome etc) i would recommend Gft as it has Gr8 Pre's which matters a lot as if u have a file before it is on any other site u will be seeding that file on that site wid maxm speed as u will act as an uploader :)

@vault101 I dont think it has anything to do with pre seeding. It has been explained well enough by Pony.
grab the file on A tracker and seed the same file to other trackers, that's Cross Seeding..

ScL does not allow pre-seeding. They have very clearly stated in their rules.

As for other trackers if you are not sure, you should talk to the staff on IRC.

What Pony explains is correct. But i would like to add. The error that sometimes occurs i believe has something to do with the 'pieces' size. It may differ from tracker to tracker and that may allow you to get up to 99% or so at Tracker B.
Sometime what i do i to just forgo those few kBs and download them.
At the end of the day, you might be seeding with a ratio of 1000's for that torrent.
