Default Upload speed relating to capped download speed.

I see a few upload speed threads but couldn't seem to find the answer to this question specifically. Sorry if it has already been answered.

It seems that my upload speed drops drastically when I cap my download speed. I've heard (and have had it work successfully many times for me) that when starting a new tracker, one way to keep your ratio in check is to cap your download speeds. This is just my thoughts here as to why my up speed deteriorates. It seems that there might not be enough down speed left with a cap to successfully process/receive requests from peers for my torrent client to maintain a decent up speed. Is this correct? If so, is there anything that can be done to get round it?

I dont want to spam but i was asking myself exactly the same question before reading this thread, because i read in this site a method to get some upload and it was to cap your dl speed in order to seed longer because many people notice that we seed better while downloading... And i try with a tl torrent but when i cap my dl speed to 1ko/s my up speed is also cap... So i was thinking that maybe the tracker already thought about this and put in place a system to cap both (up and dl speed) or nothing, but thats just an idea i made myself so it probably not correct...

Don't cap your download speed to 1kb for starters. The tracker still needs you to receive requests etc from it.

Download about 50% of the torrent at full speed up and down, then lower your download speed on a per torrent basis, not in global options. Lower it so it's about 70-85% of your total upload speed or even equal to your up speed and see if that helps. Keep an eye on it and adjust the speeds accordingly after that. Other than that, I'd suggest playing around with some of the settings in your client and if your using your home line patch your TCP/IP and you should never have your speeds as max/max anyway.

On some Trackers it's not really beneficial to use this method, especially if there is alot of seedbox users, you'll soon run out of leechers and be left with a negative ratio.

First you want to be limiting your upload NOT your download I find it should be capped to about three times your total upload speed for a decent ratio, there are lots of tuts on setting up utorrent.

After you have some pieces of the file then limit the download but nothing less than 80% your max upload

Why not just select the files after a few pieces have downloaded and set all to don't download. Then it will seed just the pieces you have EG down 1 rar then just leave that to seed and others rars as dont download

Also it depends how many torrents you have running eg 80kB/s up and you have 10 torrents running 10kB/s each and a fast leecher will connect to a better/faster seeder so just limit your torrents running to 1 if you want to seed better while you download
