Thread: Rules for Site Reputation and Thanks

THE OFFICIAL MOD APPROVED CRITERIA FOR GIVING NEGATIVE REP:

ANYONE WHO POSTS NEGATIVE REP FOR ANY REASON OTHER THAN THE BELOW LISTED CRITERIA WILL BE PENALIZED!!!! - the mods

And now back to Eschaton's post...

This is a forum, and more often than not people will say useless/meaningless things, and just because people have the power to neg rep someone they shouldn't misuse it. Also many times people are neg repped because their opinion isn't liked.



Here are a few reasons that neg rep should be given:

- to a cheater
- to a liar
- to a scammer

Most of these people are given infractions and bans anyways, so lets expand it -

- blatantly disregarding the rules
- to an extremely offensive post
- to someone who spams around continuously (come on, all of us spam once in a while)
- to someone who insults you for no reason
- to repetitive offenders
- to introductions that do not follow template after they've been told

The bottom line is no one likes being neg repped, but in some cases it is necessary. But it should always be given with some thought.

I liked this post Eschaton. I'll talk to the other mods about it. I'll also see to it that the rep is removed since you clearly didn't deserve it.

One thing. The reason rep is anonymous is so that people dont have to fear "retribution" if they neg rep someone. And since that is clearly a risk I still believe that rep should remain anonymous. The mods can't possibly police everyone who neg reps someone in revenge.

Edit: Eschaton I clickied the wrong link and thought you received negative rep for a different post. My mistake. :( I am unsure if the mods will be able to remove that rep or not but I'll still talk to them. Okay? :)

I'm not disputing that. Both were just examples. Did you even read my post completely?

admins can enable this option i think.
your topic is in a way like a spam and i think your neg rep is right cause you could post the same thing on the topic that was opened before a while.
also all these reasons u mentioned i think that exist already..
u dont give neg rep to someone who is only liar,cheater,scammer but u can also give him if u find his post rude, for flame,spam etc..

It's not up to anyone at this point to question whether his neg rep is right or not, except Eschaton and the mods. He said that he is okay with accepting the neg rep if he must. However, the situation made him think about this and that's why he posted. Am I correct, Eschaton?

This is not "spam" . It is an intelligent, well written, thought provoking post. The fact is that people give neg rep far too easily around here and clearly laid out expectations need to be defined. The post that you link too is almost two months old. It also is not nearly as developed as this and only touches on a small part of Eschaton's thoughts.

TranceX your reply is idiotic and demonstrating a distinct lack of consideration to anything Eschaton has said, he made very valid points and I agree fully with everything said.

As an example I could negative rep you now for posting what I consider to be a rude, half-witted and negative reply to a constructive post, however I won't as I think people are in habit of negative repping too much like HotPink said. I myself recieved a neagtive rep from some sour grouch for a comedy post I made that he construed as spam, which had been directed at some mindless idiot who was ostensibly about to receive the ban hammer a few minutes later.

However other people might negative rep you, which would probably be wrong even if your post is about as useful as chocolate toilet paper, therefore I think it would be better if there is a more fixed criteria to what one may negative rep others for.

i didnt say that this topic is spam but the topic he recieved the neg rep for gft cause if u can see there is already one about the same thing..

lets say u open a topic about gft news and after a while another user opens a topic that say gft news further detail?
this isnt right..he could have posted it on the same thread..no need to open a new one just to say that invites are closed due to traders.
and i think that is the reason he recieved the neg rep from someone.

hotpinklipstick u were the one that was neg repping all intros when people making wrong intros..am i wrong?
i think neg repping to those people is way worse than this thing.
neg repping people who are very new and want some help is not good.of course if its totally wrong they deserve it but not to all..
in our case its different and he has experience.

and i am stopping this now..read other topics that say about neg reps and reasons..

Yes I am TranceX. And if you read Dave's last post in HOW TO GET BANNED you will see that he encouraged me to do so. So please do not call me out for doing as the sysop said I should. If people cannot follow rules they will not get in. Period. I'm sorry if you disagree but that's the way things are done here. If you have a problem with the way the site is run I suggest you take it up with Ethicks or Reggie31.
