It's really simple really. Cross seeding is when you have a completed torrent from one tracker, and then download the same torrent from a different tracker. When you add the new torrent file, you don't need to re-download the files as you already did from a different tracker, so all you get is upload and no download. Sometimes some files may be named differently or put into different folders so you may have to do some renaming, however most of the time it matches up perfectly. Hope that helps, and let me know if you need some clarifying.

This is against most of the private trackers' policy right? Can they actually catch you cross seeding?

No it isn't against any tracker rules that I've come across. In fact many if not all trackers encourage it, even more so if your suffering from ratio problems.

Actually, most private trackers encourage it.

It is not against policy on all the trackers I'm a member of. Who cares how you got the data. If it passes all verification checks you are giving back to the community. I might have been preparing a release for upload but someone beat me to it. Its better to have 2 seeders to get it out there then relying on just the one so I grab his created torrent and start seeding.

What some people might be confusing the cross seeding with is the "Can I upload your torrents to other trackers?" question found in a lot of FAQs. This refers to the torrent file itself, since it contains their tracker URL and information specific to you (passkey) you are not allowed to upload it elsewhere. But if each tracker has its own torrent file generated based on the same data and you download each one properly (ie from the orginial tracker site so it contains your passkey) you are good to go.

Don't manually add the individual tracker URL's to a single running torrent though. I believe that causes all sorts of problems. Have a torrent running for each tracker you want to seed the data on. (Some clients require you name the torrent file differently so they don't conflict, I just append tracker initals).

It isn't cross-seeding! Coz you download DIFFERENT torrent, and you finally have 2 torrent in your client with same data.
Cross-seeding is when you have 1 torrent with 2 or more trackers.

Most of respectable torrent-trackers make their torrents you CAN'T use cross-seeding even you very want :001_tongue:

Anyway if you do it, get ready to be banned

I need to change the way I use the term cross seeding to avoid further confusion.

This method works on all trackers. As long as the files and torrent names are the same.

I'll use the anno 1404 dawn of discovery razor1911 that came out for an example.

So first you'll want to get the torrent and download it from a tracker (obviously not the tracker you want to cross seed to)
After it has fully downloaded go back to SCC or whatever tracker you want to seed to and download the .torrent file.
You'll need to make sure the file sizes and amount of files are the same, in this case we see they are
    Original downed files

Torrent files on tracker I want to cross seed to

Open it with utorrent and point it to where the files already are. Should do it automatically...

It will start a hash check like below

once finished with the hash check it may download a few Kb's of data and start seeding, as you can tell I'm seeding the same files to 4 trackers.
Sorry for the lame tut, but hope it clears it up
