    Default Please Help with Port Forwarding!

    So I'm at school at the moment, and cannot figure out how to port forward my connection here. With over 90 people in the swarm, no one connects to me, and when the do they drop right out. I have port forwarded before, back at home, but here the situation is different. I'm assuming the apartment complex I live at has a centralized router, which I don't have access to. All there is in my apartment is a base station - a Unicom Micro Switch 8 Port 10/100 Base TX. Does anyone have any idea what I should do to go about port forwarding in my situation? I'd appreciate any help, and my seeding would too.

    EDIT: Thanks for the help everybody, however this is no longer relevant. I'm off campus, and will be moving in the fall. Thread can be closed.

    I'm willing to bet that your school is blocking the torrent protocol and they are probably blocking all but the ports they need.

    In short, its not worth your time. Stop it.

    That's also a REALLY good way to get expelled, and not only yourself but your tracker busted as well. Torrenting isn't highly looked upon in the public realm ;) I don't want to see you get in trouble mate.

    Schools and colleges are the worst place to even think about using torrents. I am not sure which country you are in but when I went to a school in the uk (been all over the world lol) I almost got expelled! Luckily I made good friends with the IT admin and weaselled my way out of it lol

    use encryption and or a VPN service if you are really adamant about doing this,

    but as everyone already said. this is not a good idea.

    Thanks for the input everyone, I'll be headed home in a week and I've decided I'll just move off campus in the fall so I'll just be signing up for my own ISP. Don't want to risk my education over torrents!

    Besides the risk, it's pretty much impossible to port forward without secure access to the routing hardware. If you're willing to spend a little cash, you could get a shell somewhere and bounce your torrent client through it. A secured tunnel will pose little risk, but it kind of defeats the purpose of the whole "free" thing.

    Hi mt3ch, thanks again for repping me.

    Its not worth the risk buddy... but since you already heard that argument, I'll try and give you a technical one.

    I'm sad to tell you that there isn't much you can do, because in a public setting, you are in a firewalled environment, which means none of the incoming ports can connect to your station.

    Encryption won't work, because you cannot establish the actual socket connections to your peers, which is a prerequisite for encrypting outgoing/incoming packets.

    sorry =)

    Schools, colleges, companies often block things related to file sharing..
