Default Help with terminology and leaving feedback

I have just joined T-I and I have to confess that I am pretty new to everything and there are loads of terminology which I'm unfamiliar with, I have had a look around, but haven't been able to find anything that tells me what things mean. If I have managed to miss something mindbogglingly obvious, then my apologies. But things like Igiver, what is it? How does it work? It would really help if someone could point me in of a some sort of glossary.

Also I have tried to leave positive feedback for the person who repped me in, and I used the URL from the Introduction thread. And I was repeatedly told that the URL is invalid.

    Any help gratefully received

Well first of all you cant' do that yet. I think you need to have a higher rep before you can give positive feedback to people.

Also Here is the Golossary -

    Administrator
: This is the highest permission level for a member. He can manage the whole baord by creating/organizing categories and sections, setting up permissions, changing the board's design, managing the users, etc.

    - Announcement : Topic which always stays at the top of the topic list even if this topic is old. It appears at every page of a forum. They are generally used for board rules.

    - Avatar : Personal image which is shown below the username in posts. The avatar is choosen by the user and it usually reflects a personality trait, a passion or a mood.

    - Category : A group of forums (section). They can't contain topics directly.

    - Forum : Two definitions
    1) Website or dynamic website part which allows written expression of its members. Also called "board", "message board" or "bulletin board"
    2) A group which contains topics (or threads), also called "section"

    - Founder : The administrator who created the board. He has rights the other admins haven't, such as modifying his own profile, changing the board's address or deleting his board. He also has access to the restoration tools (utilities).

    - Guest : User who's not logged or registered to the forum.

    - Hidden user : Registered user who have chosen to hide their online status. It can be done by setting "Hide your online status" to YES when you edit your profile. Administrators and moderators (if allowed in "Admin Panel >> General >> Security") can still see them, their names appear in italic.

    - Moderator : A member who's charged to ensure a nice ambiance in a section or in a group of sections. For this, he has tools simple member don't have, such as moving, locking, unlocking, deleting, splitting, merging topics, editing or deleting posts, banning troublesome members.

    - Post : Part of a topic which contains what a member wrote. It also contains the avatar and the informative links about the same member. It is synonym of "message"

    - Private message : As the name means, it's a message you send to a single member who will be the only one to read it. This is useful for transmitting confidential information (ex : abuse report). Also called PM.

    - SMS : Kind of writing which is often used in textual messages exchanged between mobile phones. This writing has the characteristic to be very abbreviated by using a single letter or number for a sound (ex : "U" for "you", "2" for "to", "sk8" for "skate"). this kind of writing MUST be avoided on this board because it's hard to read!

    - Sticky : A topīc that always stays at the top of the topic list, below annoucements (if there is one), even if this topic is old. It appears only on the first page of a forum. They are generally used to display useful content which must stays visible for everyone.

    - Topic : A series of posts. Also called "thread"

    - Spam : is the posting of advertisements, abusive, or unwanted messages on a thread.

    - Usergroup : A group of users which has special permissions, such as having access to a private section, or moderating a section. Any user who's member of a group will have the access/moderation permission given to the group. This simplifies the permissions management a lot.

    - Ban : If a member breaks the rules, they may be banned by a Moderator or administrator. This renders the member's account useless, leaving them unable to Post, send PM's, etc.

    - Flame : The noun "flame" refers to an insulting post targetted at another member with intent to offend (eg, He replied with a nasty flame).

    - Locked : Moderators and Administrators can "lock" a thread to disallow further post from being added to it. Entire folders can also be locked, but in such cases, the folder will also be placed out of view from regular members.

    - Signature/Sig : Snippet of text and/or image(s) automatically added to the end of an individual members post. Your own signature can be edited via the 'UserCP' menu.

    - Thread : Same as "topic". A collection of posts relating to the same subject, grouped by a unique title. Eg, I'll post my ideas in the 'Suggestions' thread.

Freddy - he is not new to the Internet, just T-I, he didn't ask about anything you pasted. He meant "glossary" according to T-I terminology, not torrents/forums in general. This is already in the vBulletin FAQ, I guess.

    Kink Kong:

To rep others (using the balance icon in the top right corner of every post right next to the exclamation icon for reporting posts) and/or thank for their posts (using thanks button next to reply, quote, etc. - both (?) currently invisible for you; note: this is a quick way to give someone positive rep) you need to achieve certain level first. That is, you have to have +5 rep points yourself (given you by others by any occasion), be a member for at least 7 days and write 50 posts (note: off-topic section posts don't count). This will give you "Progress 33%" under your nickname and you'll become so called "junior inviter". As a junior inviter you may also make request.

Summary: 7 days, 50 posts (besides off-topic), 5 positive reputation from others = 33% = junior inviter = ability to rep others and make requests..

To be able to enter "Trusted giveaways" section that is meant to share invites only with experienced TI users you have to reach another level which is 50%. (go to the General Section and check out the "New Rank Information" sticker to see what is required for each level)

You can monitor your stats (including reputation) in the User CP (1st link in the second menu on top).

iGiver - this is a way to give someone you gave an invite or you got an invite from (in The Marketplace section; note: this also includes bonuses of any kind from "Give Bonuses" section) feedback after the deal is done, just like you give feedback on e-bay. It can be positive/neutral/negative. You give iGivers by clicking the number next to the "iGiver: " counter in the top right corner stats area of everyone's posts (with join date, number of posts and red/gray/green reputation level) and then by clicking "submit feedback for [nickname]".

Now read it again and welcome to T-I. If there's something unclear for you, try reading few pages of this section ;) Same questions repeat over and over.
