Default DHT- to disable or not?

my friend says to disable DHT in utorrent when i'm using private trackers since it looks for anyone with that same file. so i could be uploading to someone who is not registered under the private tracer... and that it might get me banned.

is this true/should i disable and what does DHT do exactly?

I don't know about the ban but as Sirius said it doesn't update the stats properly in the tracker so yeah keep it off.

Absolutely disable DHT - most private trackers require you to do so anyway. The reason is because it allows anyone to connect to you and compromises the security of the site. Also, you could be uploading to some not on the tracker and therefore your ratio gets screwed.

Keep in mind as well that if you are using uTorrent you have to disable DHT network, DHT for new torrents, Local Peer Discovery and Peer Exchange.

Definitely disable DHT, especially if you are on good trackers.

Good advice, not doing this will cause problems for your account, no one wants that.

think most if not all private takers will want u to turn those features off. there mainly for use with public trackers. also make sure the client you are using is supported on the tracker u on.

I knew a few people who eventually got banned from some tracker for using DHT

Just disable it. It lowers your speeds also
