Hello, a couple of "diagnostic" questions:
have you noticed if on other ftp servers, or http for that matters, you can reach 800KB/s?
have you run a few speedtests on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test, ideally at different times in the day, to see more or less what your internet connection is capable of?
have you tried, while downloading a file from your seedbox, to download something else at the same time?
There are a lot of possibile causes for "slow" transfers, don't forget that it might even be the seedbox that's not able to give you more.
Does it say something about it in the agreement?
When you say "should be getting 800", it's because you saw it before and now you see 400, or because you have a ~800KB/s internet connection?
Sorry about all the questions and no answers, it's just to try and pinpoint the cause of your troubles a little better.
well befor i got the seedbox my bt client would always top out download speeds at 800kb. and the seedbox customer support told me that it could be the ftp client and needed configed becasue the box should top out my speed to.
That's why I wondered if you can reach 800Kb/s downloading from other FTP servers.
To be honest there is not that much you can configure in a client, the only difference between an FTP transaction and a bittorrent download is that you have only one connection to reach 800kb/s.
That means the operating system (and the router, by the way) needs to be correctly configured (receive window size and stuff like that) to manage that.
I can suggest maybe this test:
Argonne National Laboratory NDT server
Be sure to choose the NDT server closest to your location and with a big server windows size if you have a very fast internet connection (the size is mentioned towards the end of each page).
Try several times at different times in the day (or night, even better).
I use FileZilla everyday, and there is nothing to configure there.
Which operating system are you on?
windows vista
There are a couple of things you may want to try, as outlined on this page:
SpeedGuide.net :: Windows Vista / 2008 Tweaks
The problem is, before doing anything, you must confirm that it's a client/pc problem and not just network congestion.
You need to verify if from other FTP servers you can download at full speed.
Otherwise all I'm saying or assuming is useless and/or wrong.
i guess its really no biggie but that extra 400kb would be nice you know :)
Oh yes, I know
Well, at least it works. 400Kb/s is still better than no KB/s.
yes that is very ture roberto
Anyway, if you decide to try some of the things I mentioned before, tests or tweaks, let us know how it went, it might be useful to others in the future :001_smile:
