You can put your files you want to download directly into your webfolder root (/var/www). So then instead of typing <IP>/rutorrent you would just type the ip in your web browser and your files would be there to download.

I think this is what you want to do? If you want this I would put the files you want to download via http in a seperate folder, some thing like 'var/www/webdownloads' and then password protect that folder like your rutorent folder is. Otherwise anyone might be able to downlaod your your files and google may even find it!

Downloading a file from a server is basically the same as loading any html page. When you load a webpage, you're just downloading an HTML file and other files. If you want to be able to download a file, just put it in the directory with your other files and provide the address to it.

that will surely work but then it would refrain me from seeding the file at the same time

you can probably change rtorrents settings to save all your files in the public http section & seed from there. But that isn't very ... secure.
Is there a reason you are downloading via HTTP? SCP is usually a lot easier way to download files from a seedbox if you have shell access (ssh).

If you need a hand with that, feel free to pm me

I'm sure Kitkatra is talking about changing the directory where the torrent data is downloaded so it's the same as the data on youe web server... That way you can still download via html and seed at the same time. So what s/he's saying is still true. You just have to make the change in your /rtorrent.rc file (assuming you're using rtorrent)/

Well, either that or make a symbolic link to your web folder from your rtorrent download folder. You can edit your web server config file and add a password using htaccess, then it would be as secure as your rutorrent gui. I use this method to share a movie with my friends I don't trust with a torrent site invite!

Btw, it's confusing that the you completely changed the question in the OP?!!

Ah, I see! Have you tried CuteFTP? I've always found it works really well and it has loads of really cool options like remote folder syncing and the like.. :) It tells you the speed in megabits not megabytes though which a little annoying, other than that its fantastic.
